As one of the houseless, who only recently realized that the ban was lifted,
I find myself spending hours searching for ANY acceptable place for a large
brick house (which I ignorantly purchased during the ban). The answer seems
to be that there is NO place to put a large structure under the new rules.
(at least not on chessie) I have 2 guildmates, and the three of us have a
combined 40 months of playtime between us. None of us own a house, and I
think we are precisely the sort of people Origin wanted in control of a
house. Three accounts, one house, isn't this what they had in mind?

So? This huge new world, designed to be mostly land, mostly empty, is banned
from housing for what reason? The dang thing was obviously designed with
housing in mind. OPEN IT !

Thank you and goodnight.

Actually, if they put in Guard Zones, PKs will be hard pressed to do too
much damage. A pk tries to ebolt you, you run into a public house as it hits
you, you call guards, no more PK :)

It also creates a nice base for non-PK players (like the original poster)
and hence we enter that argument again. Frankly, with the many barriers & roads
in place, I don't see why we can't have at least some limited housing in the new
lands. The new housing plan has put a crimp on many builders. We can't deny
that. Ultima Online is growing and we need to face the fact that the numbers of
houses will grow too.
Though I doubt they'd like to, OSI should really consider creating a
"housing friendly" area to add on to the game. If they created some sort of
large, relatively open area, with fewer resources and a lower spawn, it could be
geared towards player housing and/or player cities. Those with larger buildings
to place would at least have a place to build a house. This should also avoid
complaints that houses would ruin the land (like T2A) because the land wouldn't
be meant for fighting monsters or chopping down trees.
Well, it's a thought at least... =) Feel free to add your own ideas. (And
those hobbit holes could still work too!)

don't get me wrong i would love to be able to move my house to the new lands
because that's where i play the most but i do so because PK's aren't as bad
there and it's open without houses every five feet
i hate walking through the woods and hearing 50 horses then turn on COT and
see they are all trapped in one house or like the first place i put my house
..the second it dropped two PK's came a running I just happened to place it
close to a PK house
just thoughts

Once they target you, the ebolt has actually hit you, the animation is slow.
I have been fired at and had the ebolt animation follow me half way across
Trinsic, when it was fired from outside the front gate (guard-zone line).

I disagree, I want to place a house, but the new lands to me is a national
park. Yes, even a few player built towns would be fine, but overall, I do
not want to see more than zero houses in the new lands. Period.

also if you read history on this game the new lands are supposed to be
something caused by the FoA ....i'm not gonnna repeat the story but i guess
they cast a spell and opened the portals between the two
maybe once they decide to add another continent or world somewhere they
should then open up the new lands
but it's nice not running into a house every 2 seconds...and actually having
clearings of grass...u know fields...plains

Yeah! Keep the new lands closed! There's great hunting with no houses there.

Sorry friend, the damage is instantaneous. It's just the animation that is
following you.

I don't know if this has been changed (it doesn't happen often enough
to me for me to confirm it), but many moons ago it used to be that
running across a server boundary would allow you to escape the damage
from ranged spells like magic arrow, fireball and energy bolt.
