Newbie alert... :)

Does anyone know how the hell am I supposed to make enough $$ to get
anywhere? It appears (according to the docs) that he only thing I can
really do to make money in the beginning is to bunny bash, yet I'll be
damned if I can find anything but a single brown bear running around.
That's all fine and dandy, but no one will buy furs or meat from that
bear after I kill it so it's rather a waste of time.

Am I missing something here? I moonstoned to another area and was
instantly killed because I had no armour, horse or anything else that
I can buy if I can figure out a way to make money.

Getting discouraged.....

Thanks!

Jon

Hey Jon

You can make a tailer who can make leather armor out of the hides you
collect and sell that (gloves and sleeves are best gives 8-11 pr hide
dependen on quality) sure you woulæd have to train your tailer a bit up to
about 60. but it worth it!! i've just bought a large marble patio house to
185k all made on hides.

take care

I don't even know what you mean by 'make a tailor'? Are you saying I
have to have more than one character to play this game? Sounds a
little advanced for one just starting out, no?

Thanks!

Jon,
What shard are you? And what facet? There are stacks of things to hunt
(pigs, rats, rabbits, deer) in the east forest of Britain (but make sure you
are in Trammel). Consult the essays on uo.stratics.com. There is all sorts
of help there for whatever profession you want to follow.
I started three months ago just as the usual warrior and have been taking it
slowly but surely. Made a bit of money selling rabbit to the butchers then
tried lumberjacking and made more selling bows to the archery shop (keeping
one for myself) got some leather armour and started on some of the lower
level monsters... then met some similar mates and went on hunting
expeditions (some real hairy ones) have progressed from there to 90s in
swords and tactics...

Hiya!

>Jon,
> What shard are you? And what facet? There are stacks of things to hunt

I'm playing AW (Armagaeddon World) and I seem to be stuck on an island
called Magincia. There is a moongate here, but it takes me to a place
called the Northern Estates which seems to be an even smaller island
bereft of a moon gate. Thus it seems I'm stuck on a really small
shard, but I'm not totally sure of this.

There's bascially two animals kicking around, a panther a bear now and
again. There's no butcher that I can find in this town (I am using
uo.stratics.com. I've only sucessfully sold one thing, that's the bear
hides from the bear I managed to kill. Now, of course, that bear is
gone and my only meagre source of income seems to be dry. I'm going to
create a craftsman and see if I can build some stuff to sell.

Am I having a bad exeperience because of this particular shard? I
bought the game used and thus I can't use ther registration code
again. This means that I'm SOL for the official EA UO servers, so I'm
trying to find a decent (large) free server. The servers I've tried so
far appear to be either really small shards or there's no humans
playing on them.

Not realy sure where my problem lies :)

Any good, large, free shards out there?

Thanks!

Well, ill be glad to offer help, but dont take it offensively, as there is
no sarcasm nor attitude intended. So with that, here goes....this aint
nintendo, you dont just wack and get rich. Join a guild that adventures,
they usually divvy the loot, so can make some that way. Bottom line for own
cash reserve is, make a character that can produce items in need or items
that npc's will buy! "Mine" some ore, make it into ingots and "Smith" it
into armor and weapons to sell ! "Lumberjack" some wood off a tree,
"Carpenter" it into shields and stuff to sell, or "Bowcraft" some bows and
arrows and sell them !
Theres several good ways to make cash, good luck!

Thanks for the response, don't worry - I'm not taking it wrong. I
appreciate any help I can get.

I guess what I'm worried about is the fact that since I don't know
much about the game, I may be on a crappy shard and that's affecting
my experience with the game.

For example, I tamed a sheep (hey, gotta start somewhere!), and have
sold the wool. Now I want to sell the thing to a butcher shop, but
there isn't one in this town so I don't know what to do with the
thing. In addition, I'll be damned if I can find an animal handler to
stable Mr.Sheep with so I'll probably just lose it anyhow. Is there
some other way to hang on to the animals I tame when I'm offline.

I can't find anyone, PC or NPC, to sell it to either.

Thanks!

in my opinion the best way would be :
Get to Moonglow using the public moongate) and gather reagents and shave
every sheep you encounter
the wool you sell to the tailor and you can make really much money in a very
short amount of time.
Use some of the wool to make your own bandages (in the tailor shop)
and sell the regs at the bank to players
That way you make enough money in the first week to develop your char enough
to kill the bigger monsters for the bigger money.

And therein lies the problem. I haven't played any of the
free pseudo-servers, perhaps they are great, but there is
no shortage whatsoever of things to bash, or opportunity
to make money, on the real servers.

I suggest you get yourself over to a less populated area which
normally has animals and monsters coming out it's ying-yang.
If AW is anything like Origin's servers, try Yew.

Not at all... you can just have one character... just have him/her learn
tailoring for now (you can always drop that skill later) It seems that
Tailoring is a great way to make money early on though.

You need to go buy scissors and some sewing kits from a Tailor NPC at a
Tailor shop. You can use the scissors to cut up hides into Leather.

Also, you can use a sword or dagger (NOT ATTACKING, just use it on them) on
sheep that still have wool to get wool. After shearing the sheep, you should
kill them (it takes less time for a NEW sheep to get made, than for an old
sheep to grow more wool... so it is better for you and for everyone else to
just kill them.)

You can use the wool on spinning wheels (also in the tailor shop) and you
will get balls of thread.

If you have five balls of thread, use them one at a time on a loom (also in
the tailor shop) to get a bolt of cloth.

Now, you can "use" the sewing kit, and based on your skill you can select
different items to make, leather or cloth items. At first you will only be
able to make cloth items, but you will still make some profit off of them.
Later, as your skill goes up, you will be able to make leather gorgets (this
is high 50s or 60s in skill) Once you hit that, the BIG MONEY starts
rolling in.

In the meantime, go around killing sheep and smaller animals (try around
Moonglow to find a good spawn of animals, moving up to harder and harder
creatures as your skill goes up. So at the same time you are improving your
combat abilities, you can use your knife on some of the corpses to get MORE
LEATHER to tailor some more!

Eventually you will be able to kill Great Harts and Cows with only a couple
of hits, and your tailoring will be high enough to make gloves, sleeves and
gorgets. At this point, your greatest care in the world will be "How do I
carry ALL of this leather back to town... I'm TOO HEAVY!!!" :) Seriously,
I go out and come back to town OVERLOADED with leather items I have sewn,
and I have to drink white potions the whole way back to make me strong
enough to make it! Then I go sell them all, bank the cash and watch my
future house get ever closer and closer to reality!!! :)

ALTERNATLY, if you want to. You can make a second character, and START HIM
OFF with 50 tailoring. Then you can use your main character to harvest
leather and hides and cloth and such, and give it to the other character
(this is more difficult... requires quickly logging out and back in inside
the inn... and it's risky.) But you can have this one guy work for a short
while to get his tailoring up to about 60 (only 10 points) and then make
cash faster. Your main character can be free then to do whatever it is you
originally wanted to do, spending only a little time every day harvesting
hides and such to transfer to your other character.

My main character is a bard who specialises in Provcation and Clothing :)

He has 100 Tactics
99 Swords
low 90s musicianship
high 80's parry
high 60s provoke
mid 60s tailoring
50s magery
50s healing

This was all gotten with no macroing in about two months time. I've been
working at a new job for this third month, so I haven't really gained a lot
since then, so as you can see it doesn't take long if you are persistant and
patient. And whenever I can play, it takes me about 10 minutes to make over
1000 gold (and I hear there are faster ways as well for the VERY strong
characters!!!) but that's fast enought for me :)

My most important suggestion to you though is, find another town... try
Moonglow. It is incredible for spawning animals, as well as reagents on the
ground, which you can use if you are a mage, or just sell to the magic shop
(or to other players) if you aren't.

Hope this helps.

Walk always in the Virtues my friend!

Try mining. Find a mountain or a cave and take a pickaxe and have at it. The
smelt the ore at a forge and then sell the ingots in town for 5gp each.

Ahh the newbie days :)
Well for starters you may want to try a mule. A mule is a hcaracter that
makes money for a character of yours and then you have a trusted friend hold
it for ya while you get the character you want the money to be transfered
to..
A good starting mule is a miner. I would recomend for a pure miner and non
smith starting with 50 tinkering and 50 mining but if you would prefer to be
a smith also and make armor and weapons out of your ingots it would be best
for you to start with 50 blacksmithing and 49 tinkering and 1 mining (the
one mining is for you to get your newbie tools like a shovel or pick axe)
then go out and mine mine mine and smelt your ore and get ingots (it will be
slow at first if you started with 50 smithing and 50 tinkering but it will
get better) If you chose the smith way then find an anvil and make ya some
wooden kites then head back to town and sell them to the armourer. you will
start getting better at it and thus making more money for your fighter and
any other character you chose to make and eventualy your other characters
will probably be able to make money for theirselves by killing monsters or
thing like that.
I hope I was of some help to you and if you need anything else and have icq

Without a doubt, the BEST way for a newbie to make money is to mine....This
is good for a couple of reasons.... #1 After ya get good enough to smelt the
ore into ingots,ya can sell the ingots to either other players or NPC's

#2 It will help build your str...Which you will need to progress (str
determines how much you can carry and how long you remain alive in a fight)

Get thee to moonglow.

Meat can be sold to butchers. The furs are harder; you can cut them
up (with scissors, for cut leather) and *maybe* sell that to a cobbler
or tanner; uncut they *might* sell to a fur trader as well.
You get more meat off hinds, cows and great harts, though.

There's a few other options; if you can get an axe, start chopping at
trees. Kill a bird for feathers, and start carving the logs into
shafts. Make Crossbow bolts, they sell nice at the provisioners. Or
try making bows; harder, but more money in it.

And pick up any reagents you see lying on the ground; the vendors at
the mage shops will buy most of those as well. (Except spider's silk,
cause it's everywhere...)

Or try a lumberjack 50 Carpenter 49. Chop trees and make wooden
shields.

From day one you'll make 2000 gold per hour doing this, after a few
hours 3000+. Also builds strength VERY fast. Don't know how this
compares to mining amd tinkering, never tried them.
