Mmmmm.... That sounds pretty interesting, though it could go either way!
[Edit]
On further reflection...Melee combat? Mmmm. I don't fancy the sound of that.
If they are going down this route, it'll change the feel of the game
forever.
I think... the idea of a free roamer sounds good. I like free roamers.
Stalker, Fallout 3, etc. That bit does appeal and has a lot of scope, I
reckon.
The melee combat, though...that really doesn't appeal. At all.
Hmmm...not sure what to think about this yet...I can't really imagine it
having the same TR feel.

While playing around in the CRYSIS Sandbox2 editor I got to thinking THIS
could be used to recreate Tombraider in a very interesting way. With a
game world so wide open, it is totally simple options to shove a sports
tournament game at us, or just Lara out Tombraiding. :) In fact, all the
same maps/levels could be used, and only choose the gameplay style to have
it your way. If they set it up like that. It can be done, and easily. So
with these more modern game engines, it is just a matter of the devs choice
whether to do it or not.

My first game-love was TR, but I'm also a Grand Theft Auto fan because of
the "go anywhere, do anything, any time you want" (sandbox) aspect of the
games.
I love TR for the character -- but she's in a world where she's pretty much
"on rails" and constrained by walls (which are sometimes invisible).
I love GTA for it's "sandbox" world -- but the protagonist is always a bit
of a crook (if a likeable one): there's no hero; he's just the best of the
bad-guys.
I want a HERO -- I want LARA -- in a sandbox world. That's the dream.
So, this sounds very interesting to me.

Could be great.

I agree with that, just let us PLAY! :-D Oh, and if it were scaled out
to the size of Morrowind, that would be great too!
