It's something I usually have when a new EP is coming out. Two or
three weeks before release I don't feel like playing. I might load the
game, but exit it when it has loaded because I keep thinking of all
the things the new EP has got.

At the moment I feel like building apartments, I tried to, but since I
only have the basegame installed on my laptop it isn't really fun to
do so, I have to wait until tomorrow when I'm back home again. Until
that time I keep myself busy with Children of the Nile, which is also
entertaining.

I just though of something. In the chat they told that you cannot sell
the furniture that comes with the flat. I hope you can change the
colour with the swatch tool to make it fit with the decor if you want
to change it.

LOL, it's frightening sometimes reading about other people's habbits,
because so many of us are the same way, and yet we have no idea we
are, or we don't talk about it :)

I've built 5-6 apartment blocks so far. The first was very poor, but
I'm rather happy with the latter ones. Also built, or at least laid
out, a trailer park and a shanty town he he.

I don't like using Maxis made stuff, I only use them for inspiration
at times, and I tend to "evolve" my house designs etc. over time. Will
be more difficult having to move out 4 families before a building can
be changed, but oh well. Probably a cheat for that too, to activate
building tools.

Not sure about designing objects, but I think it would make sense (at
least game wise, if not realistically). I've seen nothing to indicate
either way, except they said the tools available will be paint and
floor... maybe they can patch design tool too, if it's not in there
yet. If not, perhaps it can be hacked.

Looks fabbo that game, doesn't it? Very slow but looks fab.

Looks at box on shelf. I wonder if it works with Vista?

I was going to get this via Steam, but the demo wouldn't work properly on my
PC. For some reason, my monitor had trouble synching with whatever screen
res/refresh rate the game was using resulting in me only being able to see
roughly 1/4 of the screen as the rest was shifted outside the viewable area.
After a frustrating evening trying to get it all to work, I gave up and
deleted it.

It looked like a good game from the description and screenshots, but if the
demo was giving me problems, then the full game probably would too.

Good - I've found a lot of games I bought when I had XP work just fine with
Vista - even Baldur's Gate loaded.

I'm still busy with the first campaign, and even then I don't far, I

Still at least they're not as whiney as the sims. I don't remember the
entertainers being that difficult. I used to put them behind the posh
houses and forget about them. Ah, I'm getting a yen for pyramid building.

Wow! This group has been an eye-opener for me, as all this time, I
thought I was practically the only person like this!

I also get really listless about a month (approximately) before a new
EP, and I usually (like presently) spend my time herding my Sims into
specific positions to get them *ready* for the new EP, rather than
living their little Sim lives. Each neighborhood has specific Sims/
families in the Bin, prepared to move into apartments and trailer
parks. *G*

I'm still doing Ep's from NWN 1...jut strted Wyverns which so far is not
impressing me much. I did like Kingmaker, though. Pain
though...couldn't find either in CD form so had to download online which
means I have to play connected. I ahve NWN2 all ready to go but am
saving it until I extend all the NWN1 possibilities. I also downloaded
an old game, IceWind Dale and tried playing that but it is too
Starcraftian with the circling everyone and immovable screen and all so
i think I'm going to ditch that. Does anyone know this: Is Baldur;s Gate
and its' EP's in the NWN format of playing otr is it more the immovable
screen and Starcraftuan way of playing?

Baldur's Gate was the predecessor to Icewind Dale and uses the same game
engine - so the gameplay is the same. It is, however, a MUCH BETTER game
than Icewind Dale. The story and characterisation is really involving.
Well, BG2 is - that's probably my all time favourite in the series. NWN2 is
on hold ATM - I'm playing The Witcher.

Oh, me too. The Witcher is based on some book or series of books but the
game is pretty nice. Fantasy but different from D&D fantasy. Looks great
but you have to play as a bloke. New experience for me.

Kind of OK but he's a bit trendy and anime (white hair in a
Raon/SimCribbling sort of style if you KWIM) for my tastes (maybe steam punk
too, sort of) AND he wants to sleep around a lot (and succeeds if you let
him). mmmm .... not entirely familiar territory, must be a boy thing. But
otherwise, he thwacks the monsters pretty well and the story is interesting
even if the style is a bit superficial. It's clearly not aimed at middle
aged persons such as me but then what game is?

You have *no* idea how much I want a non-linear RPG run like the Sims.
~LOL~ I try all these RPGs and eventually get bored because I want to
do *more*. I want to own and decorate a house with hundreds of
options. I want to get married and/or raise a family like Sims, but in
an RPG setting, with wandering monsters and quests.

In a related matter, I would love to see Prehistoric Sims, Medieval
Sims, Space Sims, and Farm Sims. Not just the clothing, hair, etc.
like you can usually find custom-made (and often look great), but the
actual settings. Be great if the Sims could invent things. Hmmmm...a
combo of The Sims, Elder Scrolls (and similar RPGs), and the
Civilization games. I want to invent, build, explore, discover, and
progress for generation upon generation of Sims! Naw, I'm not
demanding, am I? ~G~

Unfortunately, the only things that come anywhere near all that are the
online games like WoW or Second Life...an dmore and more of the RPG's
are leaning toward online playing rahter than single play, which I am
unable to do because of my vision limitations (the pause button is my
best friend in battles or else I'd never progress)....

*nodnod* I don't do online games for a few reasons: monthly
subscription fee (Guild Wars being a rare exception), dealing with
other players, and not having the time to play to justify the cost.
Still, I did try Second Life *G* but I was so bad at creating anything
worthwhile, that I decided it wasn't worth the monthly fee to
continue. I'm so bad at artsy things, it's quite sad. But there is a
lot of things going on in that game, and I would actually recommend it
to people who can grasp and manipulate XY grids (or whatever they
actually are) into objects. I felt like such a doofus, that I couldn't
manage!

I started to play NWN2 but hadn't progressed very far. I plan to re-
visit it. In Fable, you can own several houses and stores (and a
brothel if you don't play the *nice* guy!) and can own houses in
Oblivion, but in both of those games, you can't really decorate them
or live in them. The Guild 2, you run businesses, own houses, and have
children, but again it's quite limited as to choices (and Vista, I've
discovered, doesn't like the game much).

I just love the concept of The Sims so much, I keep wishing and
wishing I could incorporate it into other games! Ooh, post-
apocalyptic Sims, and you scavenge and scour a destroyed world to
survive, a la Fallout. Pirate Sims! Whoo! I would be all over that.

I just tried a friend's Life Stories - incredibly dull. I couldn't believe
how much the style of play killed the game. I'd guess it's to do with my
style of play. I don't know what other story-teller players thought of it
(if you've tried)? I thought it was just awful (actually bloody awful) and
many people were so keen on it when it came out.

In other news, I received two new games by post today. One of which, I'm
not going to be able to play as I didn't realise it was first person view.

It was a *lot* more limiting than I expected, particularly since you
have to go through the story mode to unlock everything for "free" play
mode. And after playing through once, there isn't much point in
bothering again. Castaways wasn't much better, and I had high hopes
for that one because the PS2 version of Castaways is actually a lot of
fun (though a bit too linear for my tastes, still). I was thinking
the PC version would be like that, having to harvest to survive, but
with families. But it wasn't, really. It was like Life Stories on an
island, is all. Though interesting to have a pet ape.

I haven't ventured into online play with NWN, and not sure I will, but
it's a future possibility. *S* I'm playing The Witcher as well, but
I'm still in Tutorial mode. I'm thinking after that's done, the game
will get a lot more fun. My favorite RPG is Arcanum, and I haven't
gotten up the nerve to put it on my new system with Vista, because
very few of my old games so far have done well on it. It's sort of hit
'n miss.

I'm not entirely clear about Spore myself but the impression I get is you're
meant to shape the evolution of your little critters till they become
masters of the universe or something. I'm still not sure I'm going to get
it.

The two games I bought are only two small point and click adventures (and
were cheap). I bought them after reading reviews in a favourite magazine
where I've really enjoyed their recommendations in the past - it was via
this mag that I discovered Barrow Hill which was great. Anyway, nothing
spectacular but I'm hoping for an interesting story. One is called Secret
Files Tunguska which is actually quite an old game. The reason there was a
review is because it's been ported to Wii recently. The second game is due
out soon. The other is a Sherlock Holmes story which I am not going to be
able to play as that is the one with first person viewpoint. Not only that
but the camera handling is VERY lose and swirly. I tried it for about 5
minutes yesterday and immediately felt very sick. If I'd known about that,
I wouldn't have bought it in the first place.

I haven't got that far with The Witcher yet either - we're down at the city
called Vissyum or something (daft fantasy name). We're cursing at the sky

I loved NWN and really like NWN2 - I loved that whole series. Online play
can be fun if you play with a group of people you know. A lot of people get

Have you tried There? It's a one time 9.95 fee for a premium account which
you would need if you want a house but you don't really need to have talent
for creating as there is a lot of stuff you can buy from people who can
design.

There? I hadn't heard of that one! I'll have to check it out. I do
a lot of downloading from the Big Fish Games site, since they're
really cheap if you join as a member and use member credits. I love
the hidden objects type games, particularly the Mystery Case Files
series: Huntsville, Prime Suspects, and Ravenhearst. They have a few
RPGs as well, like Aveyond, adventure stuff like Westward and
Tradewind Secrets, more puzzle games and time management games than
you can shake a stick at. So if I get bored with one, I'll do a trial
download and try out something else.

On my current system, I'm just playing The Sims 2, Fable, Elder
Scrolls: Oblivion, The Witcher, and NWN 2. I tried Tropico and The
Guild 2, but Vista doesn't like them at all, and it's not all that
keen on Civilization IV either.

Did you get Aveyond 2? I loved the first Aveyond and Aiman's Prophecy
but was really disappointed with the seque;. Just didn't have the scope
or story of the first 2 and was really dumbed down. There is a ginormous
free game, on ut's own site, called Everlong that is quite good if you
ahve the endurance to play through the whole thing. Very huge story with
a lot of side raminfiactions etc.

The characters are very well developed (although the creator ahs some
spelling and grammar uissues but he tries to resolve those each new
issue) Some of the boss fights are absolutely grueling...he uses a shard
system for acquiring skills....every so often I download the newest
edition and play it just ebcause I like it...I'm hoping that since he's
just done a new edition it will load on Vista....it's sort of a Final
fantasy type game...

Thank you for the link; I definitely want to check that out. And yes,
I was quite disappointed with Aveyond 2. I didn't purchase it after
the trial download.

There's a interesting "educational" game from Educational Simulations:

It definitely has no Vista issues. There are virtually no graphics to
speak of, but I find it strangely compelling. Especially when I'm
IMing friends or surfing the Net, because it takes up barely a speck
of memory to run. You play a person, birth to death, in literally
anywhere in the world, either random pick or you can choose a
location. It has about every issue imaginable: greed, corruption,
charity, homosexuality, infertility, marriage, children in or out of
wedlock, religion, abuse, violent crimes, disease, natural disasters.
So it can be a little jarring when you're going along and the text
says you just had a horrible fall and suffered brain damage! But you
can turn on and off any of those "issues."

But as I said, it has no graphics to speak of beyond a still map (a
little extra money for the actual CD instead of just digital download
will allow you to zoom in or out) to show your location and boxes for
family, diary, etc. It has a trial download so you can check it out
before you buy. I don't know, I just really find it a fascinating eye-
opener to get a partial glimpse into what it's like living anywhere in
the world. *S*

I've had my eyes opened enough lately..hahahaha....sounds a bit too
reality for me....I was a Human Resources Director in my previous life
and had to deal with all that on a daily basis, so seeing as how I am
now retired, I think I'll just that one go! Thanks, though...
