So, I'm guessing this is because of that survey Maxis had people fill in a
while back and a bunch of wankers replied "yes, I would actually pay money
for such a thing"?
This does nothing but actually encourage Maxis to stop adding a boatload of
objects in expansion packs and charge yet more money for them. Notice how
since that survey, not a single custom object was added to the Sims Exchange
site?
If, as a result of this, future expansion packs come with significantly less
objects, then they will automatically be less valuable to me, the casual
gamer who does not see the benefit of having to pay for an "object pack".
Will Maxis drop the price of expansion packs to compensate? I don't think
so...
TS2 is buggy enough and I put up with it. Expansion packs typically
introduce more bugs than fixes. Throw me a freakin' bone to keep me happy
once in a while...

It won't be the same price as a full expansion pack. It's a booster
pack, and since it doesn't include anything revolutionary, it's really
completely optional.

surely that price will fall rather quickly.
It's a booster pack, not an expansion. It doesn't include anything
critical. So it's really very optional.

The poster who said $30 was Canadian, so that's about $20 US.
However, it's up for pre-order now at the EA store, and is actually $14.95
US including shipping...

I wouldn't bet on it. You can't NL or UNI objects for free off the
exchange because they are integrated into the game and not stored in
the downloads folder. I'm sure EA will do the same with the packs.

It'll be like 15$ in the US. Which usually translates into the same in
euro. I hope the price will drop, but somehow I doubt it... since
shops will think of it as an expansion, maybe they'll keep it at the
original retail price. Let's hope not.

I do buy the expansion packs for the added objects and not for the game
play extension. But I did say I didn't want to pay $20 for so few things.
I'm on the fence about this one, and leaning to not bothering- I'm too

It will probably cost more in Holland due to various taxes, my guess is
that it will be 20-25 euros.

they will work in the game. A lot of the stuff I download doesn't.
Either the invisible part of the mesh is way too big and the object
dominates the room, or the countertops turn to newsprint when you try to
put a sink in them, or something bleeds through a wall, or it just
flashes blue. I go on downloading "quests" where I might visit three or
four sites at a time, downloading as I go. Then I install them all
after I get offline and it might be a day or two before I go back into
the game again. By then, I don't remember where I got what so I can't
go back and complain to the creator about it. If I do remember where
something came from, then I do go report it if it's bad. But the fact
is, there is a lot of pretty stuff out there that is pretty much useless
in the game. I figure the Maxis objects will be playable at least.
I don't mind paying at TSR or contributing to MTS2, so I won't mind
paying $15 for an object pack.

The new objects and cheats are the main reasons I buy expansion packs,
too. I'm more of a builder and decorator than a game player.

The Christmas tree did look very familiar. From the pictures the pack
didn't seem to be have much of note. If I ran TSR I would make a rival
pack and make it cheaper and better too!!
I'm sure people will buy it and they probably don't need to sell that
many to make a profit.
