I see they're not going to skip a beat. I still think I won't buy it right
away - or at all. I shall see what others think before I do. Also, I
should have finished my PhD by then. I can hardly believe it will be over.

haha yeah, that development cycle slash milking cow they have is just
too good to let go without making us buy millions of copies twice a
year... so I guess by fall 2009 we'll have the first TS3 EP.
And I think there's no way they're gonna have many more features in
the game six months from now. It'll be all testing and fixing and
adding little simpel bits of code. What we saw in the video is what
they're going to release.

Six months isn't long, and the game looked far from finished from the
screenshots we've seen so far. It's improbable that my PC will run it anyway
(I don't buy the "granny's laptop" statement!), so I'm going to hold back
until all the bug reports come in and SecuROM restrictions are taken out.
Although the press release doesn't mention it, you can be guaranteed that EA
will implement some micropayment system like the Sims 2 Store.
I mentioned it before on the Snooty Sims forums but I don't think I
mentioned it here that unlike TS2 where Maxis were releasing information on
a regulsr basis, EA seems to have kept the lid firmly closed on this one,
suggesting that there might be a lot of stuff in there that regular fans
aren't going to like. Hopefully, come Thursday, EA's presentation at the
Leipzig convention might shed some light on how the game actually works,
with some in-game footage too.
I'm still of two minds whether or not I want to part with any more of my
cash to EA considering that every PC gamer in their eyes are nothing short
of criminal scum, but I'm not going to torrent it either. If a no-CD crack
comes along, and the game isn't bugged to hell, then I might consider buying
it.

I can't get interested and I don't know why! I'm really very very very happy
I am not getting interested. I need to get back to more real life stuff and
the Sims won't let me. LOL

I know what you mean, I don't either. If it does, the game must be
extremely scalable, but it'll end up looking "worse" graphic-wise than
Sims 2, and the range of the "open world" will probably only extend
like, barely beyond a lot size anyway..
Luckily I just bought a new computer... TS3 better support
multi-processing!

Well... we get all these great EPs and then kablam, we have to start
all over again... it's a two-edged sword. Given all the criticism
though I can't say I blame that all that much on this part.

then? Will we call you Dr. or Professor? Are you going to go all tweed
and patched elbows and sherry and all?
I'm not buying it untile I see waht they're going to do with expansion
packs etc. If it won't play the way I play then why agonzie over
it...there's no way the base game is going to adapt to fantasy/medieval
so no use spending money on it yet.

Ah, so AL will indeed be the last EP for Sims 2. I don't think I'll be
taking it off my computer in favor of Sims 3, though. I may or may not
buy Sims 3, haven't decided yet. Either way, I won't be rushing out to
buy it first thing. I haven't seen a thing in it that makes me "gotta
have" it. I do rather like the ability to make sims of all sizes, but
downloading some additional body meshes and skintones linked to them
have added that ability to my Sims 2 game, too, so I'm not jumping up
and down to dump it. The graphics in Sims 3 don't look that much
different to me, no wheres near as different as Sims 2 was from Sims 1.
I just don't like the idea of the whole neighborhood aging whether you
are playing them or not. For me, that's a real deal breaker and there's
going to have to be something pretty fantastic to make up for that, as
far as I'm concerned.

In England, 'professor' is a senior academic title so it won't be that, but
you may address me as Dr Maxon (but you better let me finish it first). I
have already told Him Indoors that he will have to call me Dr Jen from then
on - all the time, everywhere, forever.
Fortunately, they changed the academic robes for PhDs when the university
merged with UMIST three years ago - the ones they had before that were
utterly ghastly: grubby red with sick yellow. Now, they're a sort of
maroony-purple with red and gold bits. And the hat, of course. Do you only
have mortar boards over there? For PhDs here we have a cap - sounds more
sensible but it isn't. I can't stand sherry.

That last is also my main issue. I like the sound of the game and I will
probably buy it, but I don't think immediately when it's released.
Unless of course it is confirmed that you can turn the universal aging
thing off.
I remember with The Sims 2 I didn't pay any attention to it because my
computer couldn't handle it. Until I realised that the new computer I
was getting was able to run the game. This was only weeks before the
release so no long waiting time, which I think I prefer.
At the moment I just don't get my expectations up, that way it can't be
a disappointment, like Simcity Societies, though the patches made up a lot.

Me, too. That forces you to play "their way" and I've always enjoyed
sims becasue I could play it "my way"....I've never played the console
games for that bery reason. They're locked down hard and fast...no
thanks...I am curious to see what that final stuff pack is past

Over here all the academic robes, for the most part (a few exceptions)
are black and then you were your various hoods and stoles for whatever
yo've achieved...the docotral robes have edging along the front and
drapier sleeves...
And the hat, of course.

I've only seen mortar boards...hubby has a hard time keeping his on
since he has a tonsure and hasn't enough hair to bobby pin it on...I
thought maybe double sided tape or sticky sided velcro but he usualy
just acrries it under his arm..only time they wear them here if they are
not affiliated with a university is at high school graduations, which is
laughabale since half the facukty usually just wears the high school's
robes becasue they never bought their own...
I can't stand sherry.
It's detestable stuff....good for cooking with only...

Yes, we have hoods, edgings and sleeves too - my masters robe has an
(discreet) edging (or it did on the one occasion I wore it). If I remember
rightly, the PhD edging is somehow furrier. But in the UK they like to
flaunt their (supposed) medieval heritage so they dress us up in colours
too. Actually, the most senior members of the university are postively in
technicolour. I remember, at my graduation, being bowled over by the Dean's
outfit. It had four squares on the front and back, just like some medieval
herald. I half expected him to start blowing a trumpet.

I bet that's why we have caps. In the good old days, it would be only men -
older, balding men - who would be awarded doctorates. I bet they invented
the caps to prevent embarassment. Sticky-sided velcro - (snigger).

Oh, I'll say - they cost an arm and a leg. We don't do high school
graduations so we don't have access to that resource. Shame.

it? I haven't given the slightest thought to the Viva but vivas over here
are not, I understand, as confrontational as they are over there. Also, we

the panel. I won't be able to concentrate otherwise.

I read a friend's thesis on migratiing shifting sanddunes and found it
fascinating...
