Finally the UH-1 Huey Addon has been released. It's unarmed and a bit
crude, but still it's not bad at all. I especially like how the soldiers
sit in the doorway sometimes. That looks very cool. I'm currently working
on a mission where you play a Green Beret (U.S. Army Special Forces)
advising team, assisting South Vietnamese soldiers in a joint operation
against a VC stronghold (I'm using some of the other Vietnam unit addons).
It looks VERY cool seeing your flight of Huey's loaded with troops flying in
formation. :)
The sound however could be a little better on the Huey's rotor blades as
they make a very distinct sound that you can hear from far away. Hopefully
they'll improve the sound. From what I understand they're planning on
adding various weapons to it eventually. That'll be nice. I hope they make
the Huey Hog gunship.
Anyhoo...the addon is at: http://ofp.gamezone.cz/index.php?newlang=eng

It would be cool to have M60 s in the doors.

Does it let you sit in the door if you get in as a passenger? I've done that
when I did some skydiving from a Bell 212 (civvy version of Huey). The view
would be great if you could do that.

I can't belive how poor the addon is. I feel genuinely cheated because i
got sooooooo let down when i played it. It looks like Blue Peter put it
together out of egg cartons and a washing up bottle. The whole thing has
wrong proportions, its around 82 feet too long, it sounds like he sampled
making the noises himself and the intruments don't work.
Fair cop to em, its a start, but its utter wank. It should be
called a beta test practise temp beta release.

Dude...you have to remember that he made that WITHOUT Oxygen by manipulating
the UH-60 Blackhawk model. That is why parts of it look kinda rough. That
is VERY VERY VERY difficult so you gotta hand it to the fellow for trying
and for giving us the first completely new aircraft outside of what BIS has
given us. For sure someone else will make a better version WITH Oxygen, but
until now it's not all that bad and there are nice features such as the
ability for the men to sit on the doorway with their feet hanging out and
also the control panel inside is modified as well. I've certainly been
having fun with it so far. I just look at it as a nice little addon until
a better version comes along. :)

Yup you sure can however there is a small bug, where sometimes when it shows
you sitting on the doorway from the 1st person view it looks like your
sitting on one of the seats...and then vice versa sometimes you're in a seat
and it looks like you're sitting in the doorway with your feet hanging out
which I assume is what you were referring to. But all in all, while it's a
fairly rough addon, it's a fun one and I'm enjoying it. Beats using a
Blackhawk for Vietnam missions at any rate.
I've been working on a mission all morning that I call Tet Offensive...it's
pretty wild with lots of down and dirty jungle combat where you get a call
for help from a foward Marine base who's come under attack by a batallion of
Viet Cong. The VC are backed by heavy artillery (arty addon courtesy of
Adammo). You get inserted into the thick of things and have to fend off
waves of VC and also assault the artillery guns pounding the fortress. An
M-60 from your air base also comes rolling down the road to help out but
usually gets pounded by the artillery guns. It looks very cool seeing the
M60 tank coming down the dirt road...definitely has that Vietnam feel when
using the Jungle Everon map. Now with Oxygen released it will be very cool
to see what the Operation Vietnam guys do with it. I can't wait to fly a A1
Skyraider (not to mention a proper UH-1) on close air support missions.
Having SKS rifles will also be very cool!!!

Well it may not be perfect but 'max res' to people who put the effort into
doing these things and for releasing them to the OFP community so that we
can play with them. I have a feeling that with Oxygen being released to
certain people there will be a lot of fun new toys to play with in missions
in the future

Yes I'd be willing to pay good money for that Operation Vietnam mod if it's
done properly.

It's a shame you can't do tunnels and stuff in OFP though because tunnel
ratting with snipers taking potshots and disappearing down holes would be a
great thing to have in it.

Speaking of which, it looks like there is a new SA-80 addon with a British
Royal Marines addon that BIB just made. It's at
http://www.ofpeditingcenter.com/addon_depot/addon_detail.asp?id=270

I'm testing it out right now.

You won't be disappointed. It's EXTREMELY good!! They even have a Royal
Marine Radio man with a little antenna sticking up. That's just too cool!
The rifle is also superbly accurate!!! They really did a good job fine
tuning the sites to make them as accurate as possible. I'm very impressed
with this addon!

It has an average vote from 1-10 of 9.8 (10 being high), yet the screenshot
is so small and dark you can hardly see the gun at all.

Tell me what it's like, Chris.

Yup...I'm working on one right now. I've been making one all morning. It
pretty cool...you are inserted via RAF Chinook helicopters and assault a
town with a few surprises along the way. Artillery cannons are covering
hills around the town which makes for a bit of fun. The goal of the mission
is to capture a war criminal who is being protected by rogue Russian forces
loyal to this general ( General Guba maybe?). :) I'm going to have to
use my fake British accent to do some little radio communications stuff.

True, but not everyone has a mic and some two-way radio to get a more
authentic sound. I tried doing my last radio comm recordings using Cool
Edit Pro to add some distortion and get that "radio" sound, but it didn't
sound as good as when I had (for another mission) recorded one of my 2 way
radios with a microphone while talking into the other one. If someone from
Britain can do that and record some scripts I'd be happy to send them the
scripts. I'm also especially interested in learning some of the British
military infantry terminology to make it more authentic. I know U.S. Army
terms fairly well as I was in the Army Reserve for 8 years, but when
listening to British military guys they often use terms that are foreign to
me. I'm interested in a British infantry radioman (or a commander) would
say on the radio during patrols or during an actual battle.
Like for my USAF ROMAD mission I got the artillery commands in the mission
from Damorfasu<TZW> who was a ROMAD (forward air controller but on the
ground) in real life. It gave the mission a lot more depth I think when
calling in artillery. In my current mission I'm going to have the Royal
Marines calling in a American Rapid Reaction force for example (or at least
the option to do so on the radio). The player will a British Royal Marine
radioman and responsible for calling in infantry support, airsupport, and
maybe artillery if I can work in one of the better artillery scripts.

There should be a big box-like sheet metal housing dividing the right and
left sides to the back of the cargo cabin.

You don't have any front or rear facing rows of seats toward the back of the
cargo cabin. They only face sideways out of the bird, because of the
dividing housing, from what I remember riding in the thing.

Chris I may be able to help with British military terminology or voice
procedure. Although a great deal of the 'official' elements of are the same
as the USA because of NATO standardization - the slang terms vary a bit
(e.g. you say 'recon' we say 'recce' etc). If you have any questions I'll
try to answer them for you.

Not sure I could do the actual voices though because you yanks might not
understand my hybrid Stoke/Geordie/Cheshire accent!

Definitely I agree. I had a go with it and thought it was excellent. I
especially liked the 94mm LAW as the spotting rifle with it is a nice touch
of authenticity.

If you're using the addon in missions it might be good to include an RM with
an M203 as they do use them (but that is a simple editing job). Also news
footage I have seen recently from Afghanistan has shown them using the M249
SAW (possibly instead of the LSW) so maybe would be something to bear in
mind for future updates of the addon.

TJ - can you put the RM addon on your server?

Yup, I've noticed that on the news about the weapons carried and indeed I
have edited my mission where two of the soldiers are carrying M249 SAWs.
However I still need to add in the M203's. But do they use the M203 with
the M16 or do they have it attached to the SA80? Have you tried the M249
addon? It's also extremely well done (except for the sound).
At any rate, so far the mission is going well except that my blokes keep
heading to a waypoint that they're not supposed to go to yet, but then
return to where they're supposed to after running around the first town for
a bit. Then they get into the wrong truck...then disembark and get into the
correct vehicle...after that things go smoothly usually.
If I do any of the British voices, I'll just start each sentence with things
like, "bloody hell!" or "Oh that's quite lovely!" or "Oh how very quaint!"
and end them with "Cheerio" or "Ta Ta!" or even "...ol' chap!" LOL!
Just kidding. :) How about:
"Oh my! We shall all die if those uncivilized brutes continue to shoot at
us! What ever shall we do? " (sounding like C3PO in Star Wars) LOL!

Don't worry I'll get it right! :) I'll do my Scottish accent! "Oi
Laddie, where's ya going with that C4. Up to no good ay?"
Ok ok...I'll stop...I better let Little Feesh do the voices. :)

...actually I'm more afraid of my fake accent sounding more like an
Australian accent cuz I used to have lots of Auzzie and Kiwi friends while
in Indonesia and kinda picked up those accents for awhile.

The RM seem to use the M203 attached to an M16 not the SA80 (AFAIK). There
is also a unit within the RM 3 Commando Brigade called the Brigade Recce
Troop who I believe have the M16 as standard issue too.

I had a quick go with the M249 addon from that Taiwanese website and thought
it was good but then I've never fired one IRL - so what do I know :-)

Good luck with the mission creation. I would certainly like to play it so
let me know if I can help with any advice.

LOL only the Queen talks like that these days. You need to watch some up to
date British movies to update your slang! :-)
Try 'Trainspotting', 'Sexy Beast' or 'The Limey' or even better 'Gangster
