Sure seems to be something to what you've written, however, AFAIK, moria
is still being "maintained". Maybe it's also the players aging :) ADOM,
for example, has been stale for some years - no new developments, but it
has a huge following.

could stay with it long enough to actually DO something in the source.
You realize how long these have been around? If someone pick up and works
on it between "real life" events like school and bars for 2 or 3 years
