It's me, Chet. For some reason, Windows Live Mail won't let me post. Might have something to do with my Anti-Virus, but wouldn't that mean I couldn't *read* posts either? I can certainly still read them.

Anyway...

I was watching the anime today, and when Team Rocket goes to Pokénap
Meloetta, Ash runs straight into Giovanni's clutches. When this encounter
occurred, I thought, "So Ash knows Giovanni is in charge of Team Rocket now?
This could have some sort of implications." A little later I realized,
among the various reasons why it *won't,* that Ash has never actually *met*
Giovanni before. In the games, you fight him well before finding out that
he's a Gym Leader (as I remember it), but Giovanni was out when Ash went to
his gym. Instead, he fought Jesse and James for some reason, and, as I
recall, it wasn't so much a Pokémon battle as Mewtwo destroying the gym and
escaping to set up the First Movie.

I could be wrong, but this is the first time Ash actually sees Giovanni and
he probably has no idea who he is. It's pretty much a reverse Chekov's Gun.
Having never seen him even when he challenged his gym, Ash could meet
Giovanni as the Leader of Team Rocket at any time and never have any dots to
connect. I can only imagine that creators of the show prevented them from
encountering each other before *specifically* to avoid any sort of intrigue
that may come from it when they had a scene like this further down the road,
and never actually got a scene like this until just now. That's some
forethought, especially considering this encounter *only* happened because a
tsunami almost caused a nuclear meltdown.

Funny ol' world, ain't it?

It's been ages since I've watched it, but I think Ash and Giovanni crossed paths in the 'Mewtwo Returns' special, and there's hints that Giovanni's no longer in charge at the Viridian City Gym in the anime itself.

I don't think I've seen that one. I'm not of the opinion that any of the
movies count, but I'm told it is cannon.

Well, it's a safe bet that there's some Team Plasma involvement, so we'll see.

Maybe Mewtwo just evolves. <_<

I'm taking a 'wait and see' approach for now.

We know that it's a real Pokémon. Whether or not it's a unique Pokémon or some new form for Mewtwo is still the question. Me, I'm betting on the former.

What? Just because Giovanni wasted time and resources tracking down Mewtwo doesn't mean there weren't backups made of the data and tech used to create him in the first place.

Heh, seems like Mewtwo is pulling a Deoxys on us. New form looks kinda cool, wonder if it'll have any special abilities and whatnot. But, if they call it Mewthree, I'm gonna say that sounds really, really cheesy.
