Appearance: Nicholas is a tall, lean young man, more flexible and reed-
like than strong and powerful. He is traditionally clean-shaven, with
black hair and light green eyes. He normally wears one of a number of
tailored suits consisting of a jacket (each one a varying dark shade
of blue) and dark brown or black slacks, with a black turtleneck
underneath the jacket. When traveling, he adds a blue hat similar to a
fedora, a long deep grey cloak, and a pair of blue gloves with gold
detailing and embedded light blue crystals placed on the backs of his
hands. He tends to carry more useful items in his jacket pockets, and
may occasionally be seen carrying a staff adorned by a pair of metal
rings with freely-dangling decoration and encircling a crystal similar
to those found on his gloves.
Personality: Nicholas is a kindly, good-natured fellow, generally
relaxed and light-hearted. He seeks to find joy in life and inspire
enjoyment in others where possible. Beneath this jovial exterior,
however, is a strong, determined individual. When he is set to a task,
Nicholas will see it done regardless of whatever obstacles he faces.
When he sees a great injustice that is left untried, he will move to
correct it. While he may be a wanderer, he often leaves many happy and
grateful people in his wake. Despite the joy he inspires, however, he
is a very lonely soul.
History: Nicholas has never known his birth parents. Initially raised
in an orphanage, he was eventually adopted by a traveling illusionist
named Sylvester Pendrake. Sylvester was a good and loving father to
the boy, and taught him to appreciate humor and joy. Aside from this,
Nicholas was taught the tricks of his adopted father’s trade, and
gained a love for trickery and misdirection. As they traveled through
Johto, the two were attacked by bandits. It was through this that
Nicholas discovered that his father was more than he seemed – he not
only beat off the bandits, but managed to stop them from harming
Nicholas by creating a powerful field. With the bandits defeated,
Sylvester explained things to his young son – he was a member of an
ancient and secret order, the Aura Guardians, and had recognized
potential in Nicholas to become one himself. Nicholas himself denied
this, but unconsciously sensing a third bandit and pulling his father
out of the path of a thrown knife quickly changed his mind.
From that day on, Sylvester trained his son in the ways of his order.
By his seventeenth year, Nicholas had learned the skills of both his
father’s professions, and was on the cusp of completing his training.
Before his father could teach him the last skills of the Aura
Guardians – the safe projection and transference of aura – Sylvester
passed away from cardiac arrest. Inheriting his father’s possessions
and his goals, however, Nicholas chose to make his way through the
world, carrying on despite his incomplete skills in Aura and making up
for it with his skills as an illusionist. In his travels, however, he
learned of the operations of Team Cipher and their corruption of the
natural auras of all Pokémon. Despite his incomplete knowledge of his
order, he knew its code – right wrongs wherever they are found. Thus,
he hitched his wagon and traveled to Orre, Cipher’s home, to end its
organization once and for all.
Hobbies: Nicholas is an avid reader with a fondness for Arthurian
lore. He enjoys dance and music, and has a fondness for jokes and
games, chess especially.
Pet Peeves: Nicholas is not technologically inclined, preferring a
paper map or books to gadgets such as PokéNavs or PokéDexes. The only
allowances he makes are for devices such as a Pokémon Digital
Assistant and his father’s old camper and its appliances – beyond
them, the most technologically-advanced tool he carries is a box of
matches.
Abilities: Nicholas is a skilled illusionist and a reasonable
contortionist – he can slip through small gaps with a degree of ease
and can use sleight-of-hand to confuse or distract his adversaries. He
also has fair skills as an Aura Guardian, including limited telepathic
and extrasensory abilities. He has limited command of aura projection
– the generation of shields, offensive Aura bursts or the transference
of aura – but these abilities are weak, only lasting seconds and
leaving him drained afterwards. His flexibility and athleticism allow
him a degree of agility, allowing him to sidestep and avoid a physical
blow.
Equipment: Nicholas’ staff and gloves contain aura-amplifying crystals
which boost his abilities, allowing him to generate small shields
strong enough to reduce the impact of a physical blow.
Weaknesses: While reasonably strong, Nicholas does not have great
physical strength. While he relies mostly on speed and agility, he can
be defeated by a strong, fast opponent. Though generally friendly and
polite, he lacks social skills and often has trouble connecting with
others. Due to being raised without television, he often misses many
references to popular culture. Also, he is still in mourning for his
adoptive father, and occasionally jumps to conclusions. He is not a
proper Pokémon trainer – while he has the makings of one, he himself
has not trained one, having inherited three from his father and not
yet catching his own.
Allies on Journey: Nicholas tends to keep to himself and stick to the
company of his group, mostly his father’s old Pokémon assistants.
Enemies on Journey: Nicholas has chosen to stand against Team Cipher.
The organization, however, knows nothing of him for the time being.
Pokémon:
Lucario (Nickname: Lancelot): Skilled in the ways of aura, Percival is
a noble and brave fighter. While old, he is filled with youthful
energy, and has taken upon himself the task of completing Nicholas’
training in the arts of the Aura Guardian. While good-natured, quick
to trust and slow to hate, he is nonetheless a capable fighter and a
cunning warrior, though sometimes a bit too vicious for his own good.

Attacks: Dark Pulse, Detect, Metal Claw, Aura Sphere
Gardevoir (Nickname: Igraine): The closest thing Nicholas has had to a
mother, Igraine is friendly and good-natured. Much like a mother, she
often helps Nicholas to make sure that he can still function through
life. Though generally friendly, she is quite protective of Nicholas,
feeling some blame for having failed her old master and seeking to
make up for her failures by aiding her new one. While not a powerful
fighter, she can hold her own reasonably well.

Attacks: Healing Wish, Teleport, Calm Mind, Psychic
Lopunny (Nickname: Guinevere): Bouncy and chipper, Guinevere takes the
most joy in aiding Nicholas in his performances as an illusionist.
Something of a free-spirit, she considers it her mission in life to
spread a little laughter among their family, and is amazingly good at
her job – even the somewhat stoic Lancelot finds joy in her antics.
While playful, however, she can defend herself…she’s just better at
avoiding trouble than confronting it.

Attacks: Baton Pass, Agility, Bounce, Attract
Goals: To travel and see more of the world, to master the skills of
the Aura Guardians and to one day train another in the arts.
