I want a Wii U, but I'm not in a rush to get one. Myself, I'm planning on getting a Wii first...probably a used system, as the ones currently selling in retailers don't have the backwards compatibility with Gamecube games and controllers.

I would imagine because it's cheaper that way. The prices for current-gen
consoles always go down when the next generation comes out, plus by then
most of the best games for it have already come out and become cheaper as
well. A lot of people do that to save money. You don't really *need* to
buy a game right when it comes out unless you want on-line multiplayer, and
even then if no one else is playing it by now it can't be all that great.
As for me, I doubt I'll wait that long if I buy it at all, but I'll probably
wait until the price comes down a bit. I mean, that sucker costs over three
hundred dollars! The touch-screen is nifty and all, but right now I'd
rather have the three hundred dollars.

Exactly my reasoning. I'm finally in a position - or at least close to a position - where I can buy a Wii, and I want to get that before I get a Wii U. Backwards compatibility aside, I don't like the idea of leapfrogging between systems.
