Is there a console command to resurrect the character, or does anyone know
the format of the saved game files so I can try to fix it? I don't feel
like replaying 40 minutes which is the last time I have a valid save - it's
not much, I know, but I'd rather spend 40 minutes on something new if
possible.
Can you just load up the quicksave, die, then save it again? If you're
concerned about the minimal XP/GP loss due to respawning, you could always
enable the Debug mode and replace it.

Thanks, that worked. I didn't think you could save a game with a dead
character so I never tried it but you're right, when I reloaded that game I
got the choice to respawn.
Now, how do I give myself back the XP (don't care about the gold)? I went
into the console and typed in GiveXP and a number and it then said "in
target mode" or something like that and I have no idea what to do - clicking
on my character doesn't do anything. Can you "spell" out the steps for me.
Oh, I just noticed you wrote that I have to enable debug mode - maybe
that'll make a difference?
The corrupt save was weird - my character had -5 HP, could access her
inventory and issue orders to the henchman, but couldn't do anything and was
lying on the floor dead. But thanks again - at least I'll know what to do
if it happens again.

Thanks very much!!
I thought it was:
GiveXP

Sometimes this happens when you rest if you were poisoned / diseased or had
a spell potion that was boosting your constitution.
If you rest on lowish hp, then the bonus hp disappear when you rest and you
die.
What happened to you was probably a bug, but have a look just in case.

There are a couple different console commands which grant XP. I believe
the "dm_" version is available to DM's, and the "GiveXP" is available to
server admins. If you're doing it on your own computer, you can use
either if Debug mode has been enabled.
That's my guess, anyway; I could very well be wrong.

Nope, she wasn't resting and hadn't taken any potions that boost
constitution. The only thing I can think of is that right after hitting 'G'
to quicksave, I opened a chest that was trapped and died. Maybe the
savegame wasn't complete and so somehow it was saved that the character was
dead. But generally the games save quickly, so I'm grasping at straws. I'm
pretty sure it was a bug.
John, in my experience you are correct. I tend to use the dm_ commands so
that's the one I gave.
