* My game suffered from 'black screen after intro', but I found help
on the net that said to try turning off just about everything at boot
time to see if it was interference from another program. That
worked. I could play the game. Then I tried just turning off some
obvious things that might mess with the game (desk top security stuff
and connections to the internet) until all that was left in the system
tray were things like sound controls. That did not work. I really
dont' want to have to reconfigure and reboot my machine before and
after every time I play a game. Does anybody have any suggestions or
pointers to a better help thread?
* The tutorial part of the game is really dark--as if one had a bad
monitor during game midnight. Is the whole game this dark? (I hate
games that think it adds 'color' to half blind the player by removing,
well, color and contrast from the screen.) I don't mind the visuals
being old/dated/fuzzy/small--a lot of my games are old games. But I'm
getting eye strain just trying to see what is in the area (and I have
a very good monitor that makes most newer games dazzling and most
older games more pleasant to watch than when they and the technology
they work on was state of the art).
It looks like a game with potential....but not if I have to constantly
reconfigure my computer to play in the dark.
In the tutorial, much of it is dark...buy a flare immediately from the
guy who sells you stuff while int raining...won't help, of course, if
you use a two handed weapon but if you use a sword or rapier or club it
really helps. I had the ame problem with the opening sequences of
Icewind Dale (or whatever it was called...long time ago) Insides of
buildings were so dark you coudln't tell where you were going and
outside was so glaringly glary...was always fiddling with the monitor to
try to get a balance...NWN, though, does get better after the opening
sequnces exept for in a few places but by then there are additional aids
you can use (light rings, etc that can be worn so you don't have to
carry a torch).
Do you have the latest game patch, and what video / graphics card are
you using?

I don't recall the tutorial being particularly dark - most of it is
pretty well lit, especially at the very beginning - from what I
remember (but it has been a few years since I played it)
There is an option to play with gamma and brightness settings in-game
in the options menu (I think you can bring it up by pressing teh "O"
key while playing - and it's in the upper right hand corner of the
screen, the bottom left icon > video options, iirc)
