Oops, these are actually for BG2 and not NWN, sorry about that. You might
still be able to make them work though.

Tons of custom portraits and HowTo guides to make your own at NWHaven and
any other NWN site. Go look ;)

I went to NWHaven and downloaded the Legolas picture only for any character
allocated it crashing the game when trying to save it during the game :-(
Any ideas why........?

Off the top of my head I can't remember what it was exactly, but if you
create the tga files the wrong way (interlaced/noninterlaced?) it will cause
crashes while saving. My link to the creation guide is 404, but I'll post
that when I find it. Meantime, try another portrait and save immediatly.
If it does the same thing, kill those portraits (out of the 500 custom
portraits I've gotten from ALFA, only one was reported corrupt).

If you really need, I can send you a set if you describe what you need.

Well, confirmation:

***
If the game crash when you're saving, it's because the image file is in the
compressed format. Look at the "Image preparation" section for instruction
on
how to make sure you images are created properly.
***

The copy of the 'long way' I have is not released from (c), so I'd rather
not post it here. Here, however, is the 'short way':

The short way:
--------------

1- Copy the picture you want in your "portraits" folder in the NWN folder.
It MUST be a .JPG file.
2- Start NWN.
3- Anywhere from the main screen or during gameplay, type "~" to bring the
console. A yellow ">" will appear on the top left corner of the screen.
4- Type "ConvertPortrait filename". Ex: if the picture you want is named
iamtheportrait.jpg, type "ConvertPortrait iamtheportrait" without the
.JPG and respecting the UPPERCASE/lowercase scheme.
5- If everything went well, you'll get a message saying "Proceed to
character
gen".
6- Close (or minimize) NWN, enter a painting software and use the batch
convertion to overwrite them with the proper format. PaintShop Pro and
Irfanview have that feature.

The result are 5 files named by the filename the original file had, they are
all smaller version. (NWN doesn't crop).

If the original is smaller than 256*400, NWN will resize it but the result
aren't very good... You better do it the long way.

If the original is of a "weird" size (let say 300*900) NWN will cut the
border, so may may end up with a missing head.

***
***

If you choose to manually create then, make *sure* you use 24 bit
UNCOMPRESSED .TGA format.

I'll try that.
