It's perfectly normal for temperatures in Illinois, at least in Cook
County (read Chicagoland) to cycle through >100°F in a year. That means
below 0° in the winter to 100+° in the summer. Around Lake Michigan, the
thunderstorms that sweep through in the summer can be severe. In winter
the winds are brutal. That's why Chicago is called the Windy City.
I've watched 727 traffic on short final into O'Hare 14R from Busse Woods
Forest Preserve (42.047°, -88.021°) in late-fall cranking into stiff
crosswinds and pouring throttles on as evident by the smoke trail.
Those there the days Norton! Chicago O'Hare... "727 City!!"
Have we covered 727 departure with close-in turn as SOP, i.e. CI left
turns out of KORD 22L?
