What's with Photobucket?

They are always changing. I guess the owner of the site thinks if
you're not changing you're falling behind. Busy, busy, busy.

But now Photobucket looks like they made change that really ticks me
off, they are scaling my photographs down to 86%. The very thing I
loved about Photobucket is the thing they appear to have changed.

I go to the trouble to make a full screen photo and they change it in
to a wimpy version of what it was.

[rant on simmer]

I'm I missing a setting? Anyone else notice this? Is there any photo
hosting site that let's you keep your full sized photos?

I tried Shutterfly a month or two back, that claimed to keep your
settings. First couple of experiences weren't bad, but then started
having real problems trying to create new albums. Their procedures
either changed somewhat, or I'm having dementia, cause it seemed like
I'd go in circles trying to do a simple task. Fook it, went back to
Photobucket..

As of a week ago, they were scaling my videos [smaller.] The PNG
images were full size. Not surprising with videos.. some were 50 - 90
MB files.

I've just switched to PicFront......

http://www.findimagehost.com/imagehost.php?id=131

......which has image size settings from 80X30 to 1920X1080.

Not fully conversant with it yet; here is an example. This file on my pooter
is 358KB and has a resolution of 1024X768.

http://www.picfront.org/d/8RKU

I just uploaded it without altering any of the settings. Does OK for me, try
it and see if it suits your purposes.

I guess the appeal of photo sharing sites is they don't cost anything,
but you can now get free domain names from most ISPs, so for yearly
hosting charges - between 3 and 5 clams a month - you can have your
own URL and web site. It's getting easier and easier... With my
JamesPhotography.ca site, I get to put up pictures and movies of
WHATEVER I want, no "Terms of Use" barricades or restrictions to worry
about. I'm the boss.

I just tried the Picfront, Mike. It does not have any coding to display the
full pic in my clubs forum. I post a fair amount of screenshots which appear
slightly reduced with Photobucket. This site give me a code which displays a
postage stamp size thumbnail. The viewer must then click EACH thumbnail to
see a full size picture. With the code I get at Photobucket, I paste the
code for three or four pictures. The person viewing them in the forum has
only to scroll down to see each photo.

Let me see if I have got this right, Danny. :-) When you say "This site",
I assume you mean PicFront. If that is the case, then use the slideshow
function. All you need to do then is click on the double black
arrows at the side of the images to scroll to the next full size shot.

I have posted a few slide shows with the ..Bucket, Mike, but the user is
taken away from the forum to another site. I use that feature if I have a
large number of screen shots to share. But for two or three pictures, I like
to embed them into the forum page so the reader can just scroll down to view
and not have to go to another site.

View our club's forum here to see an example of what I would want to
accomplish:

It could be one needs only to request such a code and the admins at the site
can provide same.

BIG! Very BIG! lol

Sam, I see only one photograph of you standing alongside the Cessna. Its a
very large photograph, 4000X2664 @ 1.99 MB. I think if you want to post more
than piccy on this site, then each one needs a separate link, unless you use
the sideshow facility.

I'm still playing around with this site to familiarise myself with it. So
far I like what I see.

Nope, they were selling rides that year here in Milam at our annul
Settlers Day Fest. He offered me a free ride but I turned it down. I just
wanted to get my pic made sitting in it. This years event is this Saturday
but no chopper rides this time. Those pics are just the size I download from
my camera to my computer HDD. I haven't done anything to them. I have to
scroll a lot to see the whole pic on my computer. They sure do make a good
4x6 color print on my Kodak printer at that size, though.

Don,
I just clicked on that link in my post above. When the first pic comes
up it has a double arrow in the upper right hand corner. It is kind of hard
to see because it blends in with the pic. When I click that the chopper pic
comes up full size. It has a double arrow in the upper left corner. If I
click that it goes back to the first pic. The reason these pics are so
large is because they are the native size made by my 12 mega pixel camera.

Sorted!!

To Sam and Don (and Danny).

The reason the double black arrows do not show on Don's and my machine is
because the photograph is covering them. Have a look here, NO black arrows.

However, by using the mouse wheel and Ctrl, to shrink the photograph, the
black arrows are now visible; see here.

You could reduce the resolution the camera saves. I have my 7 megapixel

have printed to 4 x 6 at Walgreens and the prints are excellent and that
size is easily viewed on a computer screen too.

Danny,
I always save them to my computer in the native camera size and than I
can change them there any way I please. I can put them in Photoshop and crop
out just a small part of one of those large pictures and still print out an
excellent pic at 4x6 on my printer on photo paper. Looks just like a pic
made from film. I can also resize the whole pic to a smaller size file. I
uploaded those 2 pics at full size just to test the quality of that site.
I'll probably delete them later.

I know what you mean, Sam, it took me some time to figure it out. :-)

So far this is what I have found.

You can change the picture size, not sure how to do this yet, :-( and you
can rotate and flip images. To find these commands click on "Upload", which
is the first command in PicFront's menu bar. Then hover your mouse over the
icons that appear, to see what they do.

To delete images, this is what I did........

In PicFront, create a new folder and name it. Drag the images that you want
to delete into this folder and then delete the folder. If you get stuck, let
me know, and I will post detailed instructions for you.

I think this is a fairly new site, there are no instructions or "help"
files, (at least I haven't found any) and their support sucks. I fired off
an email a few days ago, to their support asking how to delete images, and
I'm still waiting, but not holding my breath.

Here you go, Sam......

Open up PickFront and click on "My Pictures"

1. At the bottom right you will see a box that says "New Folder". Type a
name in the box and then click on the green tick icon.

2. Your new folder will appear top left.

3. Drag and drop the photos you want to delete into this folder. See here.

http://www.picfront.org/d/8RRe

4. Click on the folder to highlight it.

5. At the bottom right, place a tick in the box, this is important and
easily missed, and then click on the red cross. Your photos are now deleted.
See here.

http://www.picfront.org/d/8RRf

Let us know how you get on.

Yeah that's the way I go.. the ISP provides several UserIDs which
include email account and webspace. Then you simply use a FTP
client to upload your content. Like this for example:

http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/Promise_TX4302_adapter.jpg

I grabbed the UserID "flightsim" about ten years ago. :))

Then registered a client: Ipswitch WS_FTP

You can probably find the Lite version on the web somewhere.
I still have some of the install files for WS if you want to use it.

www.google.com/search?as_q=WS_FTP+Lite (click on Images to see)

The content is backed-up onto the hard drive using SyncBackSE.
