Anyone using something similar on Win7 Home Edition, 64bit??
Just discovered Win7 & Vista have a Snipping Tool in the Accessories
menu, which I think is a single shot affair, but a big step up from the
PrtScn option...

I've always used Grabber2K and it's doing fine on win7 RC 64.

ok, got the opening menu, but after that there was no way to bring up
the menu again. It would make screen saves into the designated folder,
but only to see them was another app, like Windows Viewer. I couldn't
shut down the thing, so couldn't even delete the folder until I simply
rebooted, then deleted it manually since there wasn't a formal install.
Grabber2k didn't even get that far, again it wouldn't even come to life
after it's install, but did uninstall via control panel remove.
So, I got Fraps full version, and that should keep me out of the bars,
alleys, and playgrounds for several weeks....... :)

Not Win7 related but my trusty Sim-camera FSScreen stopped working
about a week or two ago. Installed MGrab-4 the other day and that mal-
functioned with error pop-ups too. Something may have broke the
clipboard interface? Maybe a recent install or update?

Not to be a killjoy, but Snapper will only save JPG files, yes?
Some (wonder who) insist on raw BMP files with are lossless.
BMPs can be compressed with the NTFS file system to save
space, or can be Rar'd into tight packages. What do you think
about that?

I cannot argue with you, JPG is not the best format for this kind of
pictures. JPG, is designed for natural images (pictures taken with a
camera), and for this task is hard to beat.
However, JPG is not really suitable for artificial images (such as those
generated by software) and will often introduce obvious artifact, in
particular in flat surfaces and where objects meet each others.
However I am not a partisan of BMP, but I rather recommend PNG for
everything where JPG is not suitable. PNG is lossless and allows any
number of colors, and even support transparency and alpha channels, if
needed. I don't know of any better publishing graphic format.
You asked for an opinion, here you have mine.

Agreed.. but it takes CPU to compress a PNG, and while simming
you want a quick and exact snapshot. BPM is simply dumping pixel
for pixel in 24-bit (8-8-8) color to the HD. The files are large but
clear. You can convert to PNG after the flight is over, retaining the
original time stamp. Personally I saved to BMP and converted to PNG
for years. Now it's strictly BMP, then compressing with NTFS. A few
sceencaps get processed, and THOSE are saved as PNG, then
exported as JPG to post on the web. Sometimes even in GIF format.
Lately I use WinRaR to compress whole folders of FSScreen BMPs.
Recently the Print Screen button has malfunctioned!! Don't know why.
So the Sim-camera is broken!!!

Dang... I don't know what to tell you. My Grabber2K is working great
under Win7 RC. When Snapper was recommended I installed it and it
looked great. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to make it
capture just one or 2 of my 4 monitors without going in to the settings
and changing it there. Grabber2K will capture anything I single click
on. Snapper would be great if a person had only one monitor. But maybe
I missed something in the instructions.
