Then, I finally got to the bottom of the instructions....and there, as
expected, was the 'bottom line' which stated in effect "Nhancer will
NOT work with DirectX 10 or a Nvidia graphics card if you are running
Directx 10"
Well, I'm running DirectX 10, mainly because it was installed in my
nerw computer and I let it stay.
My questions of the author is, why didn't you state AT THE BEGINNING,
Nhancer didn't work with DirectX 10.
I could have saved at least one hour of my life to do something else,
like enjoy a quality flight to Slovenia.
Is it just me? Did I miss something at the beginning? A simple
caution, maybe? I am a senior....these things happen to seniors.
Next time I read instructions, it will definitely be from back to
front.

If you did not then FSX is making Direct X 9 calls even tho your system says
Direct X 10.
You can test Edmonton if you want. Downtown MS gave us 5 or six buildings.
They work fine until you select Direct X 10 preview. They are still ok
except they completely disappear at night. With 'preview' not selected they
display all the time.
There are many other things (bad) about Direct X 10. In FSX it is broken
and does more harm then good. Leave it unchecked and you will be good to
go.

Many thanks Arthur. I haven't setup nhancer yet. But yes, I am running
DX10. You've saved me a lot of time.

Read my reply. Trust me DX10 preview in FSX is not worth it. They don't
even do the calls to it correctly. It's a hack job.

I soon as I posted my reply I saw yours. I don't have DX10 checked in FSX,
but I hadn't realised that FSX overrode the OS setting. I will get back to
nhancer.
Thank you Dave

I'm not sure I understand.
My computer says I have DirectX10 installed. I don't have the
DirectX10 preview checked off. What do you mean by saying FSX 'calls
DirectX9'? Either my FSX is working with 9 or 10. Please clarify,
Dave......I'm confoosed.

I usually like to back up my statements with references. Don't have them
handy right now but to get you straight (I think)...
FSX is a Direct X 9 program. That's it.
When they brought out SP1 for FSX it was still a Direct X 9 program. That's
it.
MS had promised some fancy stuff for FSX when DX10 was done. We've all
heard that before on programs but from MS it should be Ok. No?
Still they thought they should do something so in SP2 and Acceleration they
did a few calls to some DX10 routines and knowing it wasn't quite right they
called it a 'Preview'. And knowing it wasn't quite right they let you
select or deselect it if your video card could even do DX10 stuff. Only
video cards that are DX10 ready can display the selection box in FSX, older
cards don't even have the check box.
FSX is a DirectX 9 program. The only time it calls DirectX 10 stuff is...
1. If your video card is DX10 ready
2. and you have selected DX10 Preview in options
else she only calls DX9 stuff.
I'm thinking...
DX10 has all the DX9 stuff in it. Plus it's own stuff or...
somewhere on our machines is DirectX9.
In this article it tells you what they did in SP2 and Acceleration as to
DX10 calls. They do not tell you it makes downtown Edmonton vanish at night
and other weird stuff. It does some stuff with water, shadows, and a couple
of other things. Word on the web mostly says don't bother checking the box.
Creates more problems that it's worth. I have heard a few who like it tho.
The link (scroll down for the DX10 stuff)...

Bottom line... FSX is a DX9 Flight Sim.

Thank you for your bottom line, Dave........the rest of that stuff is
Greek to me.
I uninstalled Nhancer, downloaded an update for my 280GTX, and the
image is beautiful. Now, if I could just get that damn radio to work
during landings and take-offs ( ATC Menu blanks out on me and I have
to re-tune all the time). I'd be a happy flyboy.
