Move airport location in FSX?

My favorite gliderport to fly from in real life (79N, Ridge Soaring in
Unionville, Pennsylvania, USA)
is incorrectly located in FSX.
The gliderport is placed about 300 yds too far NW. This puts the whole thing
on the
wrong side of the adjacent highway, and projects the airport part way into
some nearby small
hills. As a result, FSX incorrectly shows substantial cliffs at the NW
airport boundary.
It's starting to bug me. Is this something that's easily fixed (at least, in
my copy of FSX)?

While we're on this topic, my favourite 'difficult ' airfield, Lukla
in Nepal, is an absolute joke in FSX. If that's the best they can do,
no wonder they shut up shop. What a joke!

If those turkeys knew anything about the flightsim community they
would have known that this is one of the iconic airfields, and would
therefore have spent a bit of time getting it right.

Oh, did I tell you I'm disgusted? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Well Walt You can buy yourself some stress relief...
http://www.pcaviator.com/shop/viewAProduct.php?pid=1036

At $27 it's a little more than half the price of FSX Gold edition. Pricey
but maybe they got it right for you.

I guess if they did everything right there would be no need for 3rd party
stuff but then the main product would be only for the wealthy (time you
see). Doing it the way they have the 3rd party people can also make some
cash and the base product is within everyone's reach.

I probably would not buy it. My problem is the aircraft. So I spent $150
on three props from RealAir (the very best for sure). Expensive but if I
fly them lots and you base yourself out of Lukla to do your flying then over
time the cost is worth it.

That's what I find. I just smile when I fire up FSX and I'm sitting in
RealAir's Duke.

Yes, your point is well made. I just needed to vent my spleen.

Walter, I like Courchevel France, LFLJ. But, as with Lukla, MS failed
miserably at
reproducing it. Fortunately there is an excellent version (FREE now) for
FS9 and
for FSX. There is also a payware version for FSX that is super nice as well.
The FS9 version is almost impossible to find. If you want it, let me know
and I will post a link.

For FS9, there are some great difficult bush strips in the Cascade Mountain
Range of Washington State. Search Avsim or Flightsim for the author, James
Belk.

Thanks, Danny. Yeah, I have the Aarvik freeware Lukla for FS9. But
with FSX the mesh is all wrong and I guess I have to wait for some
freeware mesh and airports for Nepal get made.

As things are going, I'm getting more and more annoyed with FSX and
might just cut my losses and stay with FS9. I don't deal with
bullsh*t very well, and the BS factor in FSX is much higher than in
FS9, IMHO.

Ray, I have used Airport Design Editor to modify airport but mostly to add
objects. But I might be able to relocate that field for you, if you want.

I did a little work but not quite finished. Below are links to two
screenies I made.
The default airport with the planned relocation site.
http://xs141.xs.to/xs141/09275/unionville947.jpg

And the re-located airport.
http://xs141.xs.to/xs141/09275/unionville2535.jpg

I need to figure out why the new runway disappears occasionally. I've seen
that happen in other sceneries I have added but do not know the cause.
Anyone here know the solution?

Ray, has anyone else offered to help who might have more experience? Are
you still interested?
Send an e-mail to me: > danny dot mckee at gmail dot com ,
making the obvious changes in the address of course.

Ray, I decided to give it a try anyway. I am still learning, but to have an
airport and a goal in mind was a good way to put the tools to use.

The revised airfield looks good from the air. Default Buildings are still
visible here. But you can turn them in to shelters for the 'urban
outdoorsmen' in your area. No need to tear down good, sound structures, eh?

http://xs141.xs.to/xs141/09276/unionville3499.jpg

The apron is gravel here. It can be removed, or changed to many other
surfaces, grass, coral, asphalt, concrete, and many more. I found it with
Google Earth but picture is not good at all so I can not tell much about the
airfield. Can not find it with virtual earth, but it's late and I have a
headache. Must be overlooking it.

Hi Ray,

You might like to give this new website a shot, mate:

http://fs-airportupdates.webs.com/

You can request changes to airports, and they'll do them for you.

I haven't tried the site, but it looks promising...

What a waste of time John, They do AFCADs, not scenery or anything clever.
Decent Afcads you can whip up in 30 minutes. They have managed to do one
since April - and that is for Glasgow and it was not very good, aircraft not
lining up with parking places, sitting on grass etc.. And it was FS9 only.
I think it is one of these places that started off well intentioned and then
they lost entusiasm. But FS.com advertised them to a great fanfare and that
is why I went there only to find one file, bit like Walmart opening up a new
supermarket and only selling Campbells Tomato soup - and the can was dented!

Here is a link to the relocated 79N in Unionville, Pa. I moved the airport
south east across the highway.

This installer will place the necessary bgl files in the Addon Scenery
folder in their own folder 79N\Scenery.

It will need to be added to the scenery library as a NEW Area.

http://www.mediafire.com/?nnzeyd45wqk

Features new and better looking hangers, static aircraft and gliders.

Novel idea for a website, John. I signed up and will keep my eye on it.
Looks like they are getting a bit of a bashing right now for not having much
to offer yet. Sort of like a new store opened before the stock arrived.
Every time I see something like this, I think of Mike Stone who produced so
much stuff for FS9. But got bashed by 15 year old rivet counters who
complained about such trivial matters, rather than to offer praise for the
work Mike was doing.

Anyway I there. I can do scenery with ADE. I have done several airports for
my self and for several friends.

Hey Danny. If you get bored sometime can you add some changes to my
home airport, KGRK? There is a new civilian terminal facility located
there with quite a few buildings that don't show in the sim. It allows
C-17 aircraft to land there to take troops from and to IRAQ here at Fort
Hood.

The runway 33 ILS approach is missing in FSX/FS9. Info on ILS 33 and
PAPI is at:
http://www.airnav.com/airport/GRK/ils/33

Thanks for any help

A man, with your scenery skills and talents, asking moi? I'll give it a
look, boB.

Is it the terminal on the east side of Rwy 33 off of Clear Creek Road?
http://xs541.xs.to/xs541/09283/robert_grey575.jpg The jpg is a
screen cap from Virtual Earth.

But a man of your skills. The man to whom I have looked for inspiration in
scenery design.

I'll get the FS10 construction crew working on it. Applying for the building
permits as we post!

I have no skills. :) The FS9 scenery I created was done with Fr. Bills
Eaglesoft hanger creator, a matter of following the steps in the
tutorial. I didn't even know how to combine the 7 hanger BGL's into one
BGL, so in my addon scenery all the hangers are loaded by their own BGL.

The FSX scenery was created with ---- I don't remember what software I
used. It was with the FSX included SDK I believe. I don't remember even
one step I took to create it. If I don't do something continuously I
forget it all. It's like I'm doing it for the first time each time I do
it..

Man..... I believe the terminal is on the south west side of the
airport but I have not been to the airport for years.

I believe the readme in the file stated you use Instant Object Placer which
is part of SDK as you mentioned.
