On March 10th (last month) one of the flying buddies out of Salinas sent
a photo he snapped at Hayward Exec of Sully, the Hudson River captain.
You may want to check the tail number on this one.

Here's the original: http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/photo2.JPG

and the fixed: http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/Sully_02.jpg

Best I can figure, the aircraft was parked at: 37.664140°, -122.122959°

Nice, but they should have asked Sully to take off the orange jersey first.

I think the Hudson affair is overrated.

You have some doubt if that's Sully in the left seat? I had some doubt,
but if you look in the wiki profile, Sully lives in Danville, California
which is just NNE from Hayward over the Diablo Mts. Danville is almost
in the shadow of Mt. Diablo (3849 ft.)

I'd say my buddy is to be believed, as he has lived in the area for a
long time, and we taxied behind Ed Andreini's Mustang at Half Moon Bay
in Dec 2011. Speaking of Andreini, looks like he invited other P-51 guys
to fly in, probably late April 2012 at KHAF.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aPezsQ_Fmw

You'll see the nose of Eddie's Mustang at 00:30 in the video above, to
the extreme left of the frame. Here's another video of the event..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrPddojaDfc

It looks like Eddie's mustang appears at 00:40 sec with the yellow/black
checkerboard paint scheme. You can see his dissimilar (fake) gun barrels
on the port-side wing LE.

Damn!! seems like I came back east too soon !! : [

In most water crash landings, the killer is catching a wingtip on a wave
or coming in nose high and dragging the tail. It was lucky there were
no waves of any size on the Hudson River, no boats in the path, and a
perfect pitch on contact.

By Jove! I think you've got a positive ID on him!

Well done!

Must contact the guy out in Santa Clara County this weekend (who took

bit more proof that Sully is in the Left Seat there.

I see your point Hopefully, no one will have to experience a test of
this!

Does this link Sully to the registered owner JLJ Air ??

No, and I've already looked into that. Santa Clara is nearby though,
not far from San Jose and Sullytown. :))

The aircraft is a Fairchild Metroliner?

Pretty close - but the TT model (N227JT) appears to be shorter (less
seating than the Metroliner) & possibly smaller engines.

If an aircraft flies overhead with engines cranking, then fades off in
the distance, are the engines still running? :-}

And furthermore.. :)
It's been a slowwww day, high point has been stocking the fridge with
Guiness for the Indy 500 tomorrow.

Now, speaking of engines not running, and addressing your original
question. Would the outcome be different? Most likely, absolutely, and
possibly even if Sully had another go at it. It was a magnificent
culmination of experience, skill, and luck! History tells us the odds
are it should have been a disaster, or at least near disaster. A
different crew would have a slight possibility of the same magic
combination, even if luck was the determining factor, and a mega-lottery
odds chance of it even being better - like skimming it in and coming to
rest at a boat dock...

However [everybody holding breath], IF the crew would have eaten the
fish, and a agmfs simmer would have been on board and taken control, it
would have without question, ended up at a boat dock!!!

I don't get it. We have salmon 2 - 3 times a week and it's always
delicious.. melt in your mouth delicious!! Oh absolutely, many of
the AGMFS guys could have dropped it in the water just upstream
from a dock and the wing would have just 'ticked' the wharf. Then the
Pax could have easily scurried along and JUMPED onto the dock...
right across the street from a bar no less. :))
