On Wed Nov 18th the Arizona Pilots Association put on a trip to the
Barry M. Goldwater Range to watch some A-10 Warthog's practice
dropping bombs. firing the GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling Gun and shoot some
missiles. We got to watch from the top of the scoring tower which was
pretty cool. The bombs they dropped were the BDU-33. The 25-pound
BDU-33 bombs have a spotting charge that releases a cloud of smoke on
impact so there was no big explosions. The BDU-33 is used to simulate
the MK 82 in low drag configuration. I didn't get any good video of
the bomb dropping or the missiles because they did that to far away
for my camera to pick it up but by far that Gatling gun was the best.
I have some more video and will make a part two soon.

Cheers,
Chris

Nice video, Chris!
That sound of the Gatling gun cannot be mistaken for anything else.

Hey Tom,
Being in Tucson you get to see these fly all the time from Davis
Monthan Air Force Base.
I hope that we get the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter up here in Phoenix to
replace the F-16's
Thanks for watching :-)

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Dude,

WOW, mate - your video got me having another go at trying to find a
sound file of those Gatling canons.

No luck, again, but I got to look at a lot of videos of the Warthogs,
and the canons - GEEZES, they're both just flat out LETHAL!!!

Here's one you might find interesting:

Hi John,

I have seen that gun before and some others that "Metal Storm"
produces, They are incredible.
If you want the audio of the GAU8/A being fired from the A-10 you can
download just a MP3 from a youtube video.
Is that kind of what your looking for?

Cheers,
Chris

Yes - that Metal Storm stuff IS impressive.

Yes - I'm after that kind of quiet, but INCREDIBLY deadly, kind
of"brrrrrrrrrrrrp" sound....if that makes any sense, mate?

Wonder what the A-10s were dropping mid-field at the KBAF air show?

Here's a video of the GAU-8 firing. Sounds just like that at Eglin.

Hi Dude,

How do you download just an MP3 from a YouTube video?

BTW, if you don't mind me asking, what was the music you used in your
video, mate?

I know everybody's tastes vary widely in music, but, for me, that was a
perfect fit/match!

John Ward

Hi John

The Song was Def Leppard - Rocket

To download a MP3 from a youtube video there are lots of free programs
out there but I use a program called Free Studio Manager
you can get it free here http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/free-dvd-video-software.htm
You just put the URL in of the video file and it strips out a MP3 for
you

Cheers,
Chris

Fortunately I have never met one ;o)

The company is based in Singapore, so maybe you'll have to go to some where
in that region, to see one in action?

They do make some pretty vicious veapons down there, that I wish I had when
I was on active duty :o)

Such a fully automatic 40mm grenade launcher could have a decisive word in
any confrontation, and at only 11kg it weighs the same as the .30cal
machinegun we used then, only difference is, you'd need a few extra guys to
carry the amo, but the ressult at the other end......... Who needs a sniper
rifle, heh, heh ;o)
