So yesterday morning I flew a short flight in FSX for the first time since
March.
One thing I noticed, my terrain at the airport seemed rather grainy to me,
and I had a good amount of shimmering.
Previously, when I was active in flying, it was not this way - the display
looked very good.
I did not change anything in FSX display settings, the only change I have
made is installing the latest Nvidia drivers for my 8800 GTS.
I am running driver version 185.85 for 64 bit Vista.
Below are my main display driver settings that I keep saved and always go in
and set my display driver settings once installing a new version. I have
AA checked in FSX setttings.
AS - 8x
AA Gamma Correction - ON
AA Mode - Application
AA Transp - Supersampling
Conformant Texture Clamp - Use Hardware
Error Reporting = Off
Ext Limit = Off
Force Mipmaps = Trilinear
Text Filt Neg LOD = Clamp
Text Filtering Qual = High Quality
Threaded Opt = Auto
Triple Buffer = On
Vsynch = Force On
Just curious as to why now my display does not look quite up to par with
what I was getting previously. I did double check that my main display was
set properly, 1680x1050x32, which is what my main monitor's native
resolution is.
I also have a second monitor, that is set appropriately in FSX to it's
native resolution of 1280x1024.
I did see in the newer drivers they have added an " ambient occlusion"
setting, mine is set to off and when I check program settings it states that
this option is not supported in FSX.
Anyway, just curious if anything sticks out as to why now my display does
not seem to appear as good as it did previously.
Thanks for any feedback,

I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers ( 186.18), will see if
that makes any difference when I get a chance. If not I will go back to a
previous driver, or try doing the Nhancer thing.

When I set Mipmapping too high in FS9 I get a verry grainy look of things,
especially when close to the ground, could be the same in FSX?

I think I am going to try nHancer through and NickN's settings.
Thanks,

I'm a low and slow flier and after setting up my card as per instructions on
NickN's article my scenery was much sharper. The biggest example was while
looking out the left and right windows the road I was doing 'VFR' was quite
clear. Through the windscreen quite blurry so I always flew looking left or
right (tail dragger in the sky). After setting up using nHancer the view
straight ahead is quite clear. I can see the road for miles it seems.
