After downloading files from World of AI I missed a lot of aircrafts. Is it
possible to get those from a different site?

About a week ago I saw a tutorial:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmKilP3r1oo

Flying over Florida last night (not on Vatsim) the skies were rich
with US air carrier traffic. It was GREAT!! The radio as sooo busy!!
Following the directions from scott s. for converting from FS9 to
FSX with AI Flight Planner if necessary. http://members.shaw.ca/aifp/

Yep.. noticed that, but was interested enough
and went right ahead with WoAI after watching,
and got it installed quick-like. I tell ya' Canuck
there was UPS cargo heavy on the ramp at Miami,
American, Delta and United contacting the Center,
and even a blue and orange Southwest 737 landing
ahead of me in Jacksonville. Plus default MS airlines.

ANd.. it's easy to move the traffic BGLs in and out of:

E:\Flight Simulator X\Scenery\World\Scenery

The only thing I find about this 3rd party AI in FSX is, you can be merrily
flying around minding your own business when suddenly the screen freezes and
you get the update bar for a few seconds whilst AI is refreshed and then the
sim resumes. Very disconcerting especially as in the intervening period the
aircraft I am flying has not itself paused but has flown on some way. Can
be disastrous if it happens on finals. Though I don't wish be be found to
be a complainer too much, it tends only to happen at or near very busy
airports, KSEA, CYVR EGLL etc.
I don't recollect this ever happening in FS9.
I use Ultimate Traffic 2 and not World of Ai btw.

Oh yeah? hmm.. that did in fact happen maybe once or twice when
flying last night, but it was at higher altitudes. What do you suppose
causes it? I went ahead and downloaded, installed and converted
another batch of World of AI files since dinner. Now there are a total
of 37 such BGL files in the \Scenery folder. Do you think it will freeze
and update even more now? Maybe scott s. has the answer? Does
it have to do with mixing default FSX and FS9 W_of_AI? or because
they are 3rd party AI?

I blv it has something to do with which day the week starts on in each sim,
I recall one starts on a Monday and the other on a Sunday, which is which I
have no clue.

Ultimate Traffic 2 does not use traffic.bgl files. Instead, it
monitors the user aircraft location and injects AI into the user's
environment via simconnect. (If you load the traffic toolbox from
the sdk the traffic explorer has the capability to take control
of AI using the same techniques.) I don't use UT2, but I understand
it can provide a sporatic heavy load on the system which could cause
a studder.

I don't have a heavy load of traffic.bgl AI in FSX, so I don't know if
there are specific performance issues with heavy AI. In FSX, to see
all the AI you should either have all fs9 format or all FSX format,
but I haven't heard of any performance problems of having a mix, just
the fs9 ones won't show. The problem isn't really the day-of-week
issue; weekly flightplans start at 0 and run through 6 for both fs9
and FSX, and FSX has no idea what day of week 0 was intended to
reflect by the flightplan designer.

Here are some AI animations from the Las Vegas to San Diego run last
night. The first one is taxiing to Rwy-25R... #2 behind a Ted A320.

http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/KLAS_Ted_AI.gif

A strange scene over southern California just east of Palm Springs.
Two AI pass overhead while at FL290. The TCAS was yapping!!

http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/AI_Calif.gif

Then at San Diego after clearing the runway, AI traffic spaced only by
2000 - 3000 ft. Isn't minimum separation 3NM? A DC-9 takes off (see
winglamps) with a Southwest 737 (yellow arrow) landing right behind it.
Then the 737's lights come on. They should be on while it's 6 -8 miles
out.. yes? How come the lights turn on after it touches down?

http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/KSAN_AI.gif

The GIFs are grainy but the file sizes are relatively small. Converted
W of AI seems to running ok in FSX, but the traffic spacing indicates a
low quality traffic editing job. Else one AI was FSX, the other W of AI.

Here is an example of my sneaking into a fellow member's cockpit last Sunday
on multiplayer. He was on short final at the end of our group flight to
commemorate Veterans day by flying to Normandy.

I guess it would work on Vatsim, too. Never tried it there, however.

Ok.. I could use some expert assistance in the right seat!!

Already up to my chin in technical challenges right now though.

Hi Danny,

Do you have any control over the aircraft you sneak into?

I guess what I'm really asking is whether its possible to sneak into
your mate's plane, randomly flip a whole pile of his switches, and then
"bail out" back into your own plane in time to watch him try to save the
landing/prevent the crash?? :-))

Just curious...... :-))

Hi Gregory,

Depending on what answer I get to a question I just asked Danny, I'd be
willing to jump into your plane and "help out", mate.

No, really - it'd be no trouble at all! :-))

I don't know how "expert" I would be flying at 30,000 feet since most of
my flying was uncontrolled. (shutup danny) :)

But I'd like to watch, and maybe tune radios or sumpthin'.

It can get quite busy flying the MD-80, and that's without going over
checklists or even knowing the whole cockpit and panel. Another thing
is.. with the stick, throttles, panel, radios, mouse, keyboard and all..
you almost need more than two arms!!

Speaking of panel and radios.. the M-Panel arrived today after two
months on backorder. Here are two videos from the Install Disc
(should open in media player).

http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/M_Panel_Startup_960x540_1M.asf 2.9MB

http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/M_Panel_Radio_960x540_1M.asf 8.3MB

Unfortunately there's yet another technical glitch in setting up for FSX
The VR drivers disabled the PC keyboard, and it couldn't even reboot
using Ctrl+Alt+Del. That was scary!! Probably just needs updated
drivers.. but no more `disabling the PC until they reply.

I'm just about ready to shoot myself.

I've tried a few flavours of AI programs and all of them frustrate the
hell out of me.

Is there a "AI for Dummies" somewhere around?? Puleeeze!!

I mean ... its not a big ask is it really??
All I wanna do is watch a common as garden Cessna fly some touch n goes
for an hour or so. Is that too much?? Is it ......?

Aaaargggh....!!!! Where's my gun?

FSX these days, John.

I've been slowly upgrading my old clunker with new HD, nVidia FX5500,
2Gb ram.
Nothing flash, but it works well for my needs.
