Greetings,

I know this is not the best ng to post this to, but I was browsing =
through my collection of PC Gamer CDs to find game demos that I was =
unable to play when I got them due to a lacking system when I happened =
upon a demo for Interplay's Shattered Steel.

I was quite impressed! Lots of texture mapped terrain, mountains on the =
horizon, bitmapped cockpit which you can switch to polygon, smoke and =
fog, some lighting effects...and it ran like buttah!!! (My system isn't =
extremely elite...P150, 64MB RAM, ATI 3D Rage II.) While it was fairly =
easy to finish the demo, the thing that impressed me was the incredible =
frame rate, the customizability (in terms of levels of detail, sound, =
controller options) and "mech lab" (though I do like having more control =
over the customization of a machine than is offered).

I give it a thumbs up! If you're itchin' for snazzy graphics and =
battling 'bots while waiting for Mercs 1.1... it's worth a look. =
Perhaps this is old news, but hey, I _did_ just find it today, so it's =
new to me :-) .

I buy nearly all mech games - but they have to at least be decent. That one
didn't get bought. The demo was extremely weak. There is more to a mech game
then jumping around like a fart in a mitten blast'n things. It's extremely
old news - it was poor then - it's extremely poor today.
