Missing in Action

Light 'Mechs:

Locust, Ostcout, Stinger, Valkyrie, Wasp

Medium 'Mechs:

Griffin, Phoenix Hawk, Scorpion, Shadow Hawk, Wolverine

Heavy 'Mechs:

Archer, Crusader, Marauder, Ostosol, Ostroc, Rifleman, Thunderbolt,
WarHammer

Assault 'Mechs:

Goliath, BattleMaster, Marauder II

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recently FASA has decided that the 'Mechs listed above were not to be
printed in the revised edition of various Technical Readouts. Some people
have said that these 'Mechs have been removed or even banned from
BattleTech. This is not true, their entries have been removed from the
TR:3025 and TR:3050 because FASA will no longer print the art work for the
mechs. If the 'Mechs had been banned, do you really think you would still
have record sheets for all of these 'Mechs in the new updated record sheet
books or mention a Warhammer or Marauder in the new novel "Double Blind"?
The names and stats that we know these 'Mechs by, cannot be contested by
anyone. Unfortunately, others feel that they can contest the rights to the
art work. FASA has in the past defended their rights to the art work, which
they have a license to use. As much as we like to believe that FASA is some
huge corporation, it in fact does not have or want to spend the resources
to defend the rights to these images in courts of law.

I have a press release from the court case that FASA had with Playmates.
Our anger should not be directed to FASA, they unfortunately are doing this
to cut their losses. We should be outraged at the parties responsible for
making FASA come to this decision. At this point in time, I ask you not to
buy any of Playmates products and to write them a letter stating the reason
why you have decided to boycott their products. The addresses are given
below:

We use most of the mechs you mention in the 3028 Mercs league. We had
the chassis wireframes made and they get inserted by NAIS into DOS
Mercnet 1.05/1.06

I am talking future use by FASA itself, not add-on products...
or NAIS hacks.

Astral Dominion League uses NAIS 2.03 as well.

This impresses me! How do you do these wireframes? Can I download them
and use in MERCS playing Instant Action? I'd love to! Is that hard to
construct such wireframe? I'd love too!
Impatiently awaiting your answer (on private, if you please)

They are make toys and stuff and market the american version of Robotech. All the
mentioned mechs visually resemble/are Robotech mechs or modes of veritechs. They
only other company that I know of that is allowed to print the images is
Palladium Games. Thinking of Games I would like to see as a
simulator.......Rifts. He he he he. That would be cool. Enough of my rambling

They are a toy manufacturer, they are well known for making poseable
figures, example "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" figures and vehicles
were/are made by Playmates.

These are not added wire frame friend.. that are the bits and pieces of
mecha already in the game stuck together in new ways... These add on
mechs are part of the NAIS shell program, and some are quite inventive.
A few even closely resmeble actuall FASA mechs! But other then how some
files are used, and the Data files that provide information to the NAIS
shell program, nothing NEW is actually added to mercs. Think of the
Gear Lab in heavy gear.. Torso from this one, legs from that one, arms
from another, add gun barrels missle boxes etc... NAIS is not per say a
hack..its a shell that is inserted into the chain of executables
thet launch to to put you into the sim from the menu screens. It may
very well be unworkable with the windows version of mercs.. I'm a power
user but no programmer so I honestly can't say how hard it would be to
write up a version of NAIS for mercs 1.1. A number of us would LOVE to
have it to cover a couple of online play holes left in mercs 1.1, (and I
will just BET they are in Titanium too!! I'm talking about Nukes, and
Torpedos..If you can hack a mech file with a hex editor, you can have
nukes in mercs 1.1. They absoloutly ruin online play of the game!)

NAIS shell is only for use with mechwarrior-II "Mercenaries" versions
1.05 or 1.05. It unfortunatly looks like a version of NAIS is not in
the works for Mercs 1.1 As much as many of us wish thier was. The
extra mech chassis files are fun and nice, but the real reason to have
the shell is to prevent Nukes, and other types of cheating...ALso can be
used as a tool for checking if someone is using an illegal weapons
configuration for use in an online league (by using showmek v1.3 with
NAIS)

If you want to get showmek, NAIS shell and other utills/add ons..
I recommend the following link...

http://ftp.the-market.com/anonymous/mercs/

This is a very nice little FTP site that has been around for many many
months. Who ever it is that maintains it keeps most all of the mercs
and mw-2 files availible on it and up to date. You can even fine a nice
GUI Mission builder util for making new mw-2 Mercs missions for online
play. (read every single last mission building FAQ availible if ya do,
and pass a note to Dan Kegal.. He posted something earlier this year on
writing mercs 1.1 mission, they require a little bit of special handling
to get them right)

Private E-Mail me if you have any questions I can help you with as long
as its about add ons and such to the DOS version of mercs. I Can
provide you no help with version 1.1 or Titanium..

I don't know how myself. But we just had some made a few months ago.

An unfortunate problem is that there are only a handful of people who
can take a .bwd chassis file and make it usable by NAIS.

See, the NAIS and TDL people kinda cruised away to work on other games
and don't reply to mail anymore. And very little source code was left
behind for anyone to pick up the projects.

But, I will investigate how this is done. I need to know more about it
anyway.

Great thanks, friend! Your help will be greatly appreciated. You have
honored me with your answer. I secially agree with you in terms of
fair play. I never cheat, and i find it utterly dishonorable.
