Finally got an old PC w/windows 98 and am trying to play mech2. used to use
a ch 4 button with a dedicated gamecard. now i have a sidewinder pro in a SB
64 gameport. the game sees it as a Sidewinder in CH pro mode. am i wasting
my time with the sidewinder and need to find an old joystick? the hat button
is working but none of the others will do anything in the game. advice for
getting the game up and running would be appreciated. it was my favorite
game many many years ago.

a USB port. This could be the reason for the problems you are
experiencing. Also make sure the sidewinder drivers are installed on
the 98 PC

I was able to get it to work setup as a flightstick pro in the serial port.
unfortunatley i decided to uninstall everything and install it in the usb
port. for some reason it doesnt like it. i installed sidewinder software
whichhad updates for directx (5.2)that helped my sound. my joystick drivers
are 8-7-1998. the game sees it as either a CH flightstick pro
or a ms sidewinder CH pro mode
i may look for more new drivers or just go back to the serial port and see
what happens
