What is the best emulated version of Spacewar? (or Cinematronics Space Wars)

I was up late reading Phoenix - The Fall and Rise of Video Games when
I got nostalgic about playing Spacewar. I believe the version I
played in the arcades in the early 80's in college was Cinematronics
"Space Wars". Is spacewar.zip in the AAE emulator considered the best
way to play this game? I understand I could install MESS and emulate
the PDP-1, but I'm not quite that old-school. I just want the
Cinematronics version with gravity around the sun.

The last time I tried to play in MAME I don't recall the gravity
working and it took some time to figure out that I needed to coin-up
immediately or it seemed like the game was hanging. It also didn't
seem to play like I remember in that when you used the thrusters you
would come to a stop the instant you stopped using thrust. No
floating or coasting. I seem to recall being able to thrust towards
the sun and then release the thrust and it would whip you around the
sun and you would coast for a while.

Any tips on the best emulation/simulation out there?

Thanks,
Dave in Des Moines

The mame version works, but since that game used a nonstandard
commandset for the inputs you will probably have to do some work by
hitting the tab key and figuring out which control panel input mapped
to what. I loved that game too. Even though I have it in the MAME
cab that is one game I'd consider getting if an old cabinet came
available.

That's right. The first thing you did was set all the options such as
gravity, rebound, etc.

As far as I recall I opened "TAB / keys for this game" and learned or
changed settings there. Still a very weird set of controls.
