Hi Guys,

About a year ago I changed my computer. The new one runs Windows 7 64 bit,
the old one ran Windows 7 32 bit.

Since I changed I cannot run Half Life or any episodes of Half Life apart
from Lost Coast.

When I select PLAY, the programme runs for about half a second than just
reverts to the normal Steam page with no error message. However, lost Coast
runs OK. I have other games on Steam that run fine. I tried Steam support
but they were no help whatsoever.

Any ideas?

Not having used Steam for about 2 months I fired it up after reading
your post and found that HL-2 and HL-2 episode 2 and 2 or 3 others where
marked as updating paused! I resumed them and now all current, I did
not pause anything so not sure why this happened.

Back to your problem, a few years ago I had similar problems and the
cure back then was to rename client registry.blob to client
registry.old, Exit steam and reboot and restart Steam and this file
would be recreated and all would work again.

I don't know if this still works but may be worth a try, If not you can
rename .old file back to .blob and be back where you are now, ( no
guarantees) hope this helps, let us know.

Regards Rene

Many thanks for your help, Rene. Unfortunately it did not work. I have
decided to have another go with Steam product support. I am getting HL2
withdrawal symptoms!

Best regards,

Chris Hall.

Have you tried Steam communities from there you can get to the old
forums which may be helpful.
BTW have you tried Black Mesa Yet? the part that is out is quite good.

Apologies if it obvious question.. but have you
validated the install?

From game library, right click-->properties --> local files tab --->
Verfiy game cache (and prob defrag as well.. just to be sure)

See if that help...

If not.. just delete local files and let Steam re-download

Cheers

Hi, HTH.

I have done all of these ages ago with no luck. I am currently trying out
some ideas from the Steam Support Team.
