I want to keep this brief as I need to go to bed but I need to
recommend Borderlands.

Now admittedly, I've not seen a massive amount of it yet but what I've
seen I'm delighted with. Now you must understand 'delighted' is not a
word I use very often with games and as such I find myself surprised
to be using it.

It sells itself as a RPG FPS shooter. It's that and more. It's just a
well put together game and although it doesn't get everything right it
gets more right than it does wrong. Any game which gets the balance of
challenge / fun game ratio correct is always onto a winner.

Check out some of the video's on youtube and read about it on Wiki.
Check the demo (if it ever appears) or go by the game.

Well done Gearbox studios.

I can't believe nobody else has had anything else to say on this game.
You're all mad I say...

Missed your first post, but I got to say that looks fun. Bit worrying
that one of the videos is about cheating in the PC version, although I
guess that's not necessarily in online play.

I've been blown away by the Left 4 Dead 2 demo - anyone else looking at
getting that next week?

It is fun, massively, it's just a shame I've not had a chance to play
it multi yet since I think Xbox live Gold is a rip-off. Wont run on my
PC.
I've not tried LFD2 mainly because I was disappointed with the first.
When I played it with some lads from work they just rushed the maps
when I had hoped it would be a more tense, difficult and thoughtful.

In the end it just proved to be a CS-like 'how good am I'

I think I'm getting old.

Then you're in luck and in good company, Scott - Sloth, Lyset and I
tried a co-op run through the demo last night, which was great fun. The
fourth player then switched from an npc to Phat Phingers, who promptly
pulled a Strider (as the move is affectionately known in WoW) and raced
off into the enemy at high speed. We tried to keep up, and we did have
fun, but realised that different groups will play at different speeds -
Lyset, Sloth, Bench PaulC and I have had nearly 5 years playing WoW at
a careful pace, and I think we'd carry that approach on to L4D2.

The other aspect that gives me hope is the 'AI Director' that Valve are
so proud of, which I'd hope would tailor the game to the players, so we
wouldn't be in danger of getting repeatedly swarmed if we took our
time. Having said that, getting swarmed occasionally is real fun,
especially when you have to save your teammates from having their
hearts ripped out by a hunter zombie. Or not - you get to choose.

It convinced me, anyway, so I've pre-ordered. The other thing I was
amazed at was how many aghl- were on Steam - we spotted Sabaki, Nilz,
Jethro, Jimbob, freek, plus a rare sighting of that most elusive of
aghlers, Anders. I think there's going to be plenty of opportunities
for measured zombie action coming up :)

Well heya. There still is a AGHL group in Steam. Throwback to the CS:S
days.
If you saw Phat_Phingers it was either my older phat bro or one of my
nephews. Since it was L4D2 it was probably my nephews as they prattle on
and on about L4D all the time. To young to team play.

If interested in some AGHL Bash fair has anyone else tried the free HL2
mod 'Age of Chivalry'?
It's all swords, 2 handed axes, hammers and pike (with some longbow,
crossbow and javelins) head to head bashing in of brains, loping of
limbs and removal of heads.
Oh ya there are some objectives as well in there.

Definitely your older brother, Jethro - we got confused with the whole
Pinger / Phinger thing at first, but he claimed to be older, wiser and
better-looking than you, so he's definitely legit :)

Pinger has been retired forever since I got Wireless Internet then DSL.
I'm just Phat_Jethro 'cause I still live in the backass of nowhere.

As to my old Phat bro... he got one thing right. Older. As for wiser
only if age makes you wiser then he's got that.
We get along just great! :-)

That sounds awesome, it's on my download list :)

It can be very frustrating as well. Whether it's a ping issue or just
lack of skill but getting the hitboxes right is so hard.
Me and my 10 foot pole axe are swinging away at someone and they just
keep backing up slightly. Then they step forward exactly where I was and
kill me with their 2 foot sword.
Makes me so angry I just want to kill something... but I can't reach
him. Grrrrr
