Let me start off by saying, that I am a police officer (although not a SWAT
guy). I have been invited to their training sessions and fully understand
what is involved in attempting to take down kidnappers (and terrorists).
Having this experience gives me a unique perspective on the realism debate
that has ensued here for a while now.
As the title of this article says "IT DON'T EXIST".
And ladies and gentlemen it doesn't. There is almost nothing in this game
that resembles real life counter terrorism, from the tactics, to the weapons
to the grenades.
1) Grenades don't do damage when you are standing on the other side of a
concete wall like they do in CS
2) Flash bangs don't stun or blind you while you are on the opposite side of
a crate and but do blind you if you are looking right at them. As some have
noted here, they have been looking right at a flash bang, and it did nothing
to them
3) If an enemy fires an MP5 and that bullet hits you..it will do the exact
same damage as a friendly who fires the same weapon ...UNLIKE CS, When team
damage is ON, friendly bullets do less damage than enemy bullets...BUT to
make matters even MORE unrealistic, friendly bullets screw up your aim (from
the shock of being hit I guess) than enemy bullets..again..this is TOTALLY
against realism.
4) Getting hit with a bullet of any caliber is going to screw up your aim
ALOT , unlike CS.
5) If you get shot in the back YOU are NOT going to be able to simple turn
around and fire off 2 shots, one of them being a headshot..UNLIKE CS. This
is the one thing that BUGS me most about CS. The ability for you to use
cunning to sneak up on an enemy , pop off a couple of m4 rounds to his back,
only to have him turn around...and shoot you without any apparant ill
effects from being shot in the back.
6) Sniping.....Sniper rifles are NOT close quarters weapons...In CS ,
apparantly the designers figured it would be cool for a sniper to be able to
run around like everyone else..and kill guys at close range, while strafing,
running, jumping etc etc....They never designed in anything that prevented
this....This notion that once you stop (or crouch) , you aim is once again
perfect, regardless if you have been running for 5 minutes. I have seen so
many snipers do this, that some servers are actually banning AWMs from the
weapon available list..and I totally agree...
7) The power of the AWM, I mean come on..you shoot a guy in the foot and he
dies right away..give me a break..NOW..I realize that it will blow his foot
off..but at least have him lose health over time..like he would in real life
8) TKing and how they handle it....or more to the point HOW THEY DON'T HANDE
IT. I have seen some excellant suggestion here about HOW TKing should be
handled..and I totally agree that reverse damage is the way to go..ALTHOUGH
this would be totally unrealistic , the current solution does nothing but
cause problems on FF ON servers..The current solution is easy to get around
if you have a decent computers.by TKing, the typing retry in the console
ANYWAY, anyway...quite frankly CS is NOT REALISTIC>.and don't ever say it is
Enough, I think you get the point

CS doesn't involve laser guns, and tries to implement some realistic
concepts. I'm not saying that it's like real life, but hey, have you ever
played quake? You compare quake to CS, and you see that CS is in fact quite
realistic. Unreal Tournament is just about the same as Quake in terms of
realism (although it is funner, I must admit).
If this game was perfectly realistic, nobody would play it. The point is
that it allows a nice blend of realism and fantasy that allows the player to
have fun. Everyone acknowledges that CS is not completely realistic, but
some realism is there. It gets nothing perfectly right, but has a good
amount of realism in all of its aspects.
Lemme ask, would you like CS if you were rendered useless by 2 bullets?
Would you like it if there were three times as many CT's as there are T's?
Would you like it if it took 10 seconds to reload every gun? Would you like
it if you walked as slow as hell all the time? How about if once you died,
you could never play again?
I really don't care if you're a cop or not, but if you're gonna play CS, why
bother complaining about its non-realism? The simple fact is that it's a
game, and it's not designed to be realistic. It was made for people to have
fun, so if you don't like it, don't play it.
And finally, I really don't think you have to give us your "credentials" as
being a police officer. Any idiot that's played CS and has read a Clancy
book or two could've said what you did.

It only takes one from an AWM. Do you like that? What is your point?
I would like to see a vastly improved hit location system, and some
kind of less abstract damage model... the whole % of health thing has
been around SO LONG... can't someone come up with something better?
One hit in the right place from nearly any gun, even a BB gun, can kill
someone. By the same token, if you hit certain other places, you won't
do much besides possibly put someone into mild shock, even with a high-
powered rifle (assuming FMJ ammo). Coming up with a good way to
simulate "mild shock" instead of abstracting it into a 10% loss of
health would be a very signifigant step forward in my book.
I know we probably won't see this anytime soon. SOF at least made a
stab at having more damage locations, if only half-assed.
> Would you like it if there were three times as many CT's as there are
T's?
LOL, only if I am a CT...
> Would you like it if it took 10 seconds to reload every gun?
If you practice you can reload a lot faster than that. I think the
reload speeds are fine. I *would* like to see it take longer to switch
weapons without having to drop the one you are switching away from.
> Would you like it if you walked as slow as hell all the time?
Uhhh? Again, not sure what your point is, so I'll make some more of my
own. I'd like to see some kind of fatigue incorporated into the game,
especially if it impacted accuracy. I'd like to see players who are in
a good stable firing stance have a more distinct advantage over someone
who is spinning 180 in mid-air...
> How about if once you died, you could never play again?
No, that's silly, and you know it.

I didn't know you were with the fun police...
I like the game and play it a lot. It is fun, but some things about it
could be better. If nobody made suggestions about what they thought
would make a cool game, we'd probably all be playing Pac-Man 3D.
Personally, I'd like a game like CS to be as realistic as possible. I
like sims, though; so, to me, and perhaps lots of other folks who were
attracted to the game by its "realism" in the first place, making it
more realistic could quite possibly make it more fun. Certainly more
interesting.
Maybe there could be two modes of play, Team DM with "real-world"
weapons (which is basically what we have now), and something more akin
to a simulation (which is what I would like to see.) That way, all the
people who like to bunny-hop around with a railgun, err... AWM could
play it their way, and folks who would like a more realistic challenge
could get that too.
Of course, the only problem then would be finding a server that hosted
the realistic mode.
Good gaming,

i think the game, although it still needs work, is very fun and
interresting.
making it even more realistic would lead to long and booring rounds.
i agree, but it would take a mayor overhaul to implement a new damage
system.

unfortunetly the tking problem is hard to battle.
yes, i have killed one or two a teammates before.
happens.
i do not think reverse damage is o.k.
i can already see some pissed off kids
running into the spam area on dust.
one way around it is to only play on
servers that have mature admins.
i sometimes play on the gamesurf.de servers.
you have to get registerd, some servers have ffon.
of course the whole thing stands and falls with the players.
> ANYWAY, anyway...quite frankly CS is NOT REALISTIC>.and don't ever say it
is
of course it will never be 100% realistic.
i do not think it was meant that way.
play tfc and then we'll talk! ;-)))

What about that fact that you have to buy your weapons and armor from this
magical, floating, green shopping cart? Or is that where you get your
equipment before you go on patrol?
When you start shooting at criminals do they start jumping 5' in the air and
shoot back at you and hit you in the head? I think you left that one out...
When you get killed on one of your missions do you get to fly around the
scene and look through the live people's eyes? And chat with other dead
people?

Well there is a fine line between "kinda realistic and fun" and "real
realistic and lame". I think the "realistic" tag is a relative one.
Try playing quake. Strategy required = 0. You should play Quake for a
while then re-think your actions. I've played some games that
are "realistic". Who wants to spend an hour sneaking around a house
trying to find out if someone is in there. Not me, but I will write
you a game like that if you want..

Also be aware the OL code of Infiltration has not been added yet thats next
patch IIRC so its vs ots only till then. You also might like the HL mod
Firearms it has fatigue levels & wound levels Ie, you can bleed to death
unless you bandage or get a medic, it also has a limited damage model etc.
Firearms can be found @:http://www.firearmsmod.com/
I have seen quite a few ppl I know from from CS playing Firearms lately on
telefragged's server we had a blast other day their 8P.

I remember the exhaustion affecting movement, does it also effect
accuracy? The bleeding bit was a nice touch too, makes you think twice
about running blindly into a firefight.
The prone position animations could use some work, but altogether being
able to go prone is a nice addition to game play.
