Well, I just spend a good 4 hour marathon playing some CS, and on one server
encountered at minimum 2 cheaters, almost blantanly showing off. I record
all my games, (incase anyone would ever call me a cheat, not that that would
happen, I suck a fair bit) and one who I am really suspect about. (He fired
a straight horizontal line of bullets onto a wall when retreating, full auto
M4, one nice straight line, not sure if its an aimbot or recoil suppressor,
but very suspect) Luckily I was recording, but my question is, how can
people keep coming up with these cheats, I though Valve had fixed all
possible avenues for them, what are they doing? changing opengl? using
crusty old vid cards that give cheats? reprogramming the game a little?
their enthusiasm cant be beat, as soon as a new patch comes out, they start
hacking away, and find new ways to cheat the system. Valve should look at
hiring these people to make it cheat proof, but then it would have to be
well worth their while.

Oh and the server wasnt running any anti-cheat programs as far as I know,
and an admin (or he claimed to be one) Came on and very openly cheated in
front of us. Are there any good anti cheat programs out there (never really
had to use one before, didnt find a server with any on) Ive used cheating
death, but the servers I play on (As is the one mentioned above) used to use
it, but now dont. Also how would I find a server that uses Anti cheat
programs bar joining and finding out, or isnt there a way.

Sorry for such a long post.

Some people cheat because they find it fun, others do it because they have a
complex and can't stand to lose. No matter what Valve does, there will
always be some asshole that will find a way to cheat. A lot of times, it
will look like someone has a cheat on their computer, but you have to
remember this, you don't need a cheat installed on your computer to cheat,
all you need is someone else playing in the same room (say a dorm room) that
is already dead. They can then tell their buddies where everyone is. There
is no way to stop this really, other than just kicking the two if you can
figure out who they are. There is also Roger Wilco and other game voice
software that runs outside of cs so that clan members can tell each other
where the other team is. It's frustrating, but you just have to deal with
it. Also remember that playing against cheaters will make you better
personally. There was a server called Cheats-R-Us or something like that,
and I used to go on it once and a while and play against all the cheaters.
You can really get good that way. It's like practice or something. Just
don't get too frustrated because there are people out there that are just
that damn good too.

cheating-death and punkbuster are great ideas, but are faulty.

Also how would I find a server that uses Anti cheat

if you open up punkbuster, there is a button you can click that will list
all the servers that use it.

I admin 6 server's (www.captainshole.com) and i must say i am mixed on this
post. I have seen some real shaddy individuals playing since the VAC updates
and whatnot. I do ghost these guys and when doing this i rarely to never see
anything that is fishy to say they they are cheating. I also do massive
research on cheats and their use in our severs and i have yet to find a
working cheat that will really help a player improve his skill in a cheating
way. I have tried using these cheats and always get kicked by VAC or CSG or
HLG. If cheating is so rampant what are these guys using to do it. I have
tried multiple configurations to install and use the cheats and non seems to
get past the Anti-cheat tecnology. Now im not saying people arent cheating i
just don't know what they are using to cheat. Please dont post me links or
anything like that i dont care to have the cheats (if any do work) spread
from here. i just dont get it is all im saying.

Now i have talked to several ppl and they tell me the secret is in mouse
tweaking. Now ever since i changed my mouse refresh rate i have improved a
bit but not like some of these guys you see that can go 70 -5 repeatedly. I
have played this game for about 2 years so im not a nub of sorts. I just
dont understand how some ppl are so dam accurate with any and every weapon
they use. IE fire 5 shots and hit you with 4 of them everytime.

I have a friend who was a big cheater and was pretty deep into the
community.

Up until 1.5, there were readily available cheats, OGC being the
most common. Later in 1.4 though, it stopped working. The Secure
Servers seem to be doing a very good job as it allows Valve to push
new updates and patches to the server without having to release
a new main version.

Hacks would work for a day or two and then fail.

After 1.5 was released, a whole slew of OpenGL hacks appeared.
Apparently, Valve accidentally enabled some cheat CVARs and
screwed up some of the DLL checking for the opengl.dll or something.

Last I checked (2-3 days ago), these no longer work as valve has
figured them out. I haven't heard of a new OGC since 1.4, although
I heard a rumor of a xqz2 (sp?) that supposedly works on some
servers.

But I think the Secure Server stuff is doing its job, which is a
very good thing! =)

As for skill, I have noticed one very important thing about CS.
When people of supposed "skill" play, it seems they can't be hit.
This goes for me too. Sometimes, I'm just on. I got for like 10
rounds without so much as dropping below 50%.

I don't know what it is, but when I'm playing against someone
good, it seems I can pound the hell out of them and they don't
take a single point of damage. I've noticed this when I'm
on a streak as well. Some guy will blast the hell out of me,
but somehow, miraculously, I take no damage.

So you see, it seems skill is largerly related to the luck of
the draw and whether the server decides you're going to be
invincible this round.

That isn't to say that skillful players don't contribute to
their own score, they certainly do, but the fact that they don't
get hit much for some reason plays a big part in them staying
alive to aim at anything in the first place!

I agree, I think there is a massive "luck" factor built into the game. I
usually am doing good if I am running 50:50 between kills to deaths but some
times I seem invincible. And still other times, I can not buy a kill to
save my life.

I will watch players from 1st person and have yet to spot someone who is
"obviously" cheating. If they are doing it, I can't see it.

However, I only play on a few servers. They seem cheat free and that works.
I tend to look for servers where players play the game to 1) acheive the
objective and 2) work as a team.

Mayeb we can hope and pray for a cheat free version in future releases but
for now, find a good server/admin combo and stick with it.

*sigh* damned top posters. Now I must top-post again.
See how annoying this is?

Anyhow, yes, there must be a large luck/randomization
factor.

It's all fy_iceworld for me, though! I'm in it for the
gore and random acts of violence =)

Waiting for newbs to figure out how to defuse the bomb
gets old, fast. I want quick bursts of intense play.

Never understood why ppl get mad about top posting (dont get mad chad im
just mentioning it). But to me if you have read the original post then go to
a reply i think it should be right there for you to read. I just hate having
to scroll through a message to try and find a reply. Or even worse someone
replys to individual questions in a post and you have to deciper whats old
and new cause they mix the reply with the post. Just my .02

well, I personally find that bottom posting provides a much more natural
flow of reading rather than a reply at the top. You do have a point about
mixing replies and original text, but most newsreaders will format the
text with > at the start of old lines. Some readers such as mine (X-News)
will even display the text in different colours, so its dead easy to
figure out what is what. That said, people should get in the habit of
snipping text from the original which is not relevent, and only leaving
in the bits they are replying to etc etc. Either way, I dont get
particularly annoyed by top posting, but I do understand why many do.

Well I would, but the servers are usually good, are fast (my cable company
provides the servers, at least 10 for CS alone) and I always get nice speed
(30-50 latency), I guess I just wanted to bitch some, sorry if it aggravated
some people.
