Hello,

I've been thinking of getting a new mouse pad after I slipped up on my small
3m precision pad on Village and got knifed :) lol.

There's a huge range of pads now

http://www.dansdata.com/mousemats2.htm

- theres a metal pad produced by LIAN.

- there are so-called floppy gaming pads
http://www.dansdata.com/images/mousemats2/optica280.jpg
However, this one gives me a huge headache just glancing at it.

- there are also cloth pads - courtesy of DKT
https://www.everglide.com/shop/products_detail.asp?CategoryID=62&ProductID=385

- and theres a huge problem over everglide's use of polystyrene. They
previously used the virtually indestructible polyethylene mouse pad.

www.dansdata.com claims that the polystyrene pad wore out very fast.

dan says "If you're wondering whether you're looking at a polystyrene or a
polyethylene mouse pad, hold the thing by one edge and tap it sharply with
your knuckle. Polystyrene will ring like a bell; polyethylene will just go
"tap", as if you were knocking on a door."

I was thinking of getting the Everglide's Giganta Optical V3
http://www.gamerzstuff.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=99

But I'm waiting to find out from them whether its made out of polystyrene or
polyethylene.

Anyone else used any of these new mouse pads?

Cheers,

deafnblind (Boxhill CyberAge)

Oh ya there also the so-called CS mat

The Ricochet 2.52

But there are different opinions on it

http://www.ferrago.co.uk/story/2234

http://www.slangg.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=177&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0

Apparently in the UK it cost nearly UK30

But in Singapore - tax free haven - it only cost a third of that amount.

I paid large ($45 Canadian) for my Everglide pad about a year ago and I
must say that for the price they suck shit. No, I take that back, they
just plain suck shit. I had to heat mine and bend it to remove the
concave mouse surface and the wear has been pretty quick. The desktop
of my Ikea table works better...

I use a pad of cheap watercolor paper. The mouse glides very smoothly, the
paper does not accumulate oil and gunk, or when it does, I can change it,
and the surface works well with either an optical or a ball mouse. I've
used all kinds of mouse pads, and for me, this is the best and cheapest
solution. Be sure to use water color paper, because other papers will curl
and disintegrate from the moisture in your hand. If you really want to go
big time, use the highest weight water color paper you can find, 140# or
more. One more benefit...you can take notes on it.
