GTA IV and mission brick wall (spoilers kinda)

guess you can't choose who your character likes and who they don't,
but the only person I have to do mission for now is Bernie, and he
really gets on my nerves. Guess I gotta just get through it.
Same sort of thing happened in San Andreas, IIRC. Before leaving Los
Santos, your stupid cousin Jeffrey was the only one to do missions
for. What's up with the annoying gay characters in these games?
I love this game, it's epic, groundbreaking, 1,000 little details that
make the city amazing. But the missions are really bland for the most
part. Mostly shooting and driving, with many of them largely
dependent on luck. Some missions I try 3 or 4 times and think "This
is impossible!", and then the next time I try it's a piece of cake
because traffic treats me better.
In the name of realism, can we have just ONE deal that doesn't turn
into a shootout? Just one!

I stupidly put in san andreas this afternoon, oh dear. Couldn't play
it cos controls are all wrong and boy, does it look sad when compared
to IV.

shortly after things *really* started happening! I was just sort of
at a choke-point where I'd did pretty much everything except the
Brucie races and needed to do a Bernie mission to get the story moving
again.

yeah, that's the way it is sometimes, though it isn't always obvious
exactly which things are important and which don't really matter

For shits and grins i fired up SA tonight too. On the PC, i have San
Andreas (and the other GTA titles) running @ 1280x1024. While it looks more
cartoony, the details are still sharp considering it's age and game engine
heritage. I also run my 360 at 1280x1024 into the same Samsung LCD monitor.
The gameplay was another story due to the old physics. I'm used to setting
car maneuvers farther in advance with GTA4, so of course i was smashing into
everything before i got to my intended turn.
As much as i love the vast content of SA, i won't be firing it up again
anytime soon me thinks. The new Liberty City is much richer in detail.

yeah, that pretty uch sums it up. There was much to love and I still
think the game itself was much more fun but we can only hope that this
modernisation thing means true updates to all the old places, then
we'll get a hi-def trip to Los Santos :O)

Just finished GTA IV. No story spoilers to follow. I didn't know I
was at the end, last I looked about 2 weeks ago I was at 50%
completion. Major things were happening in the last few days I played
but I thought maybe it was leading to another "chapter" in the story.
I finished the main story line but actually only have 69% completion,
I didn't do a lot of Brucie races or dating/activities, I found them
rather cumbersome but I know some lead to special benefits or
missions.
Some stats:
Money: $857,000.
Play time: 51 hours (I think that just counts saved play time, if I
was just screwing around and got killed or captured I didn't save.)
Cars stolen: 333
Stars attained: 316
People run down: 461
Miles on foot: 60
Miles by car: 567
Bullets fired: 17,035
Shooting accuracy: 49%
After the credits, which are very long with hundreds of names, the
game saves and you're free to wander and work on 100% completion.
Seems there is still some gameplay left after the credits, as I type
this I'm getting cell phone calls about what happened.
This game has to be one of the top 5 games I've ever played. The
actual missions are sort of repetitive, but the production values,
gameplay, and the city itself are just amazing. I probably only saw
half the city doing the storyline missions, I know in the ending
mission I saw plenty of areas I hadn't seen before.

wow, congrats, haven't got that far myself. I always do this, run two
or three things at one time if I can so I don't get bored but
sometimes I get really caught up in something and the others get
neglected. I'm afraid Forza 2 is the culprit this time.

I've played a LOT of computer games, since 1990 or so. I can
probably count on one hand how many I've actually finished. I
finished GTA III too if I recall correctly.

I think i did all GTA except vice city stories, and the second GTA III
one as I didn't even buy that. I love driving games but there are
almost always one or two races which would just stretch me too far so
I would rather re-start.
I've finished all the lego games :O)
I don't bother with 100% in GTA, just the game and messing around.
