They just criticize the comic books, for sucking.

I'm a fleabit peanut monkey, all my friends are junkies.
But that's not really true. :(
I criticized them because they are trained only to draw in pen and
ink, and occasionally some watercolor. Most people suck at color
works, except for the few artist who had some decent art classes back
in their college years. Even Kentaro Miura, who did Berserk, went to
an art school but his paintings have rather poor color schemes...
still he is one of few manga artists who knows how to paint with
oil... -_-;
Many manga artist, especially those back in 70s' and 80s' simply
skipped learning human anatomy. If you were raised in Japan and other
eastern Asian region back in 70s's and 80s' and read a lot of manga
magazines, then came to the state and studied art (like me) you will
painfully realize how ill-trained manga artists were. -_-; manga
artists have been trained only to draw manga, which is a very
specialized and possibly 'isolated' in terms of techniques, and many
people who actually learned how to draw and paint in 'old' western way
feel very uncomfortable about manga. Even some of those artists who
actually like manga are very, very reluctant to get into the business
because they can make more money with less workloads. (manga
production costs too much workload, practically consuming most of the
artist's daily schedule. Most artists barely have enough time to sleep
and eat just to finish before the deadline and make both ends meet...
Commercial artist are little better than them, but they have more
freedom in terms of their schedule. Few highly trained artist are very
unwilling to be manga artists because of, yes, the insane
workloads...)

Well, I don't read comic books, or manga. But it's generally easy to
criticize most of them. Not the "underground" ones I mean, but the
supposed mainstream anything. I don't really care, either. Cartoons
are for kids. ^_^!!!!!!!!!!!!
Manga is generally anime without the filler.

Don't insult my intelligence,
I don't criticize comic books. I really don't find a point in criticizing
something I am not interested in trying to convince everybody that it
sucks.
Oh I do think that Batman, Super man and others alike suck. However X-men
and Spawn are not that bad. I would even say they are quite good. Unlike
you, if I find a good comic book out there, I will give it some credit it
deserves.

Ack, nobody seems to give me the right answer. I am afraid that I'll
have to answer my own question. :(
As far as I know, Japanese illustrations are more geared toward
renderings than actual paintings. Many people simply copy from
photographs, which is one of the deadliest sins of fine artists. -_-;
(except for Chuck Close, I guess...)
Realistic art as we know is a very, very isolated field of study. The
method of education and techniques are virtually closely guarded
secret, because of the onslaught of modernism art in 20th centuries,
not that many people with a certain level of talents, and yeah....
hefty school tuitions.
Manga is separated from fine art, in terms of training at least. You
don't need to know all the color theories and anatomy and composition
and stuff to bea famous manga artist. In fact, realistically drawn
(like Druunaa) comicbooks are too overwhelming to general public. And
it's a part of established visual codes. Many people came to believe
that a manga artist only need to draw manga.
But... from my personal experience formal art education REALLY helps
when it comes when creating manga. You know how perspective works. You
know how compositions work. You know how to construct poses and
figures right one. You know how to make color pages more effectively
and quickly. But if you are good enough to be like that, chances are
you won't even bother being a manga artist.
That's what happens in Japan, and possibly Korea I think. Well
trained artists won't even bother becoming a manga artist because it's
a hellish job. Virtually you have no life. You are dragged by the due
date every month or week!!!! In terms of workload manga and American
comicbooks are entirely different animals!
You work your ass off and burn your creativity just to make the both
ends meet/ If you are a good artist who can draw and paint so well,
why in the hell would you bother becoming a manga artist? You can make
more money with painting portraits for famous people or working for
editorial illustrations in magazines.
Fine artists and commercial illustrators can be compared to
highly-educated engineers and scientists, while manga artists can be
compared to...ditch diggers or slaves or something. Shirow Masamune
and Mamoru Nagano are few exceptions.
