Roto, you are plainly pathetic. Had you any less of a life, you
wouldn't have been born. Clearly, your newbie attitude has rendered you
ignorant to everything that is going on around you. Trying to enter
something you don't understand is more than just stupid, it's fatal. If
you had a dick, scumwad, you wouldn't be talking. You've got a major
stick up your ass... try and pry it out with your eight inch dildo
before posting again.
Kuibob proceeds with his Thwacker™ to decapitate the pathetic newbie.
"Roto"'s head goes flushing down th toilet.

Let's see... you go into gay bars, hang out, take pictures of your

either you're Opel, or he's telling you to go back to bed right now.

And we wonder why she thought about leaving AGFF... ya know, this
flame war is supposed to be ending, and you're not helping at all.
And this post was WAY out of line. For a person who hardly ever posts
in AGFF, you sure have a lot to learn.
I swore to myself I wouldn't get involved with any of these flames...
but I don't know what it was about this one, it just really got to me.
I don't think Linda ever did anything to hurt AGFF in any way, I mean,
come on, anyone that tries to place all the blame on someone else is
obviously a hypocrite... almost ALL of us have made
one-liner/off-topic/cascade/whatever posts at one time or another.
Linda has always been very kind to me, and to many other people, and
the thought of her, or anyone, leaving over something like this just
makes me cringe. How anyone can call someone as nice as her a
"troll", or worse yet--well, I won't repeat it, it's all quoted--I'll
never know. Just remember, it may be easy to throw insults when all
you see is the text, but I'm sure many people would change their tune
if they were face to face with that person, especially someone as
sweet as Linda. There ARE real people behind the Usenet personas, and
those people have feelings as well. When you are so hurtful to
someone that they would consider leaving the NG, then you're no better
than a white-supremecist or Nazi, in my opinion. That may sound
harsh, but that's what I believe. This isn't just some random
bandwidth your messing with, it's also people's feelings.
Well, now that my opinion has leaked out, I know that some people will
think that I'm taking sides, and that's exactly what I've been trying
to avoid. But this post really irked me, to think that someone could
post something so beligerent about someone that I like to consider a
friend. If this means that you change your opinion about me because
of MY opinion, so be it. In that case, you're no better than this guy
I'm replying to. I for one will continue to "defend"--if that's what
you want to call it--a person I consider as a friend, and I hope that
Linda does return to AGFF eventually. I know that _I_ will give her a
wonderful welcome. If some people could just think before they
posted, a lot of these flame wars could be avoided. Let's just end it
now. Linda deserves a WHOLE lot better than the way some of you have
treated her.

now so that I agree with you, since it would seem that we have the same
feelings on this issue. But, if I'm at the heart of a flamewar, and it's
about cats... :)
>but I don't know what it was about this one, it just really got to me.
Me too! No, sorry. A simple "me too" is far too shallow for this. Some
people, like who ever this was, take Usenet for granted, thinking that they
can manipulate it and do as they wish, hiding behind a new personality. I
feel that these are the worst kinds, of trolls, those trolls that fail to
realize that there are people reading this, not just Usenet names, and that
those people are offended, and their feelings are hurt.
>I don't think Linda ever did anything to hurt AGFF in any way, I mean,

Yes. True.

Yes. I really am thinking almost exactly the same things. It's very well
put, though, so I'll just put little words like "me too" to show I fell the
same way, and add where I can. Sorry.
Just remember, it may be easy to throw insults when all
>you see is the text, but I'm sure many people would change their tune

It doesn't sound harsh to me. Some of them deserve worse...they deserve to
be...removed from Usenet. This is actually not a joke. I mean, what does one
do with people who abuse drugs? The drugs are taken away. And thus, what
should one do with someone who abuses a system like Usenet? Take it away...
>
>Well, now that my opinion has leaked out, I know that some people will

Me too. Really. I'm just attempting to prove someone...no, something, a
whole concept, wrong.
But this post really irked me, to think that someone could
>post something so beligerent about someone that I like to consider a
>friend. If this means that you change your opinion about me because
>of MY opinion, so be it. In that case, you're no better than this guy
>I'm replying to.
Well said. I would have said that. But since it'll sound like I'm posting
this to "suck up", to gain allies, I must say something to the contrary. You
see, we cannot see each other. We cannot nod or show our agreement with our
eyes. We must type it, and then send it. Otherwise, no one is aware of our
thoughts. It would seem as if we were impartial to the matter at hand,
which, in this case, I most certainly am not. So I'm just pointing out that
I agree. Nothing more.
I for one will continue to "defend"--if that's what

Yes, yes. Right again. Anyway, I'm trying to determine why such flames would
be sent. Was the troll provoked in any way? Or was it matter of jealousy,
which I suspect? You see, this troll, seeing to get attention whilst trying
to promote his/her own image, chose Linda since she has what he/she thought
was an AGFF "weakness" (not having played FF games, which is ont in the
least a bad thing, since off-topiv does fuel this NG in many ways, seeing,
for example, as I often turn to it when FF begins to grow uninteresting, or
that, as I type, I am trying not to end this sentence in the middle of a
parenthesis, hence all the commas)? (I heard Linda say that was going to see
what FF7 was like. Well, I applaud this, since it is truly a great game and
an interesting passtime, yet I also feel that Linda should judge this on
what see would rather do, if she has not already made the decision for this
reason, and that she should not try this simply because of pressure form an
insignificant troll. Darn...an entire sentence in brackets...is that bad
grammar?)
I have nothing more to say but...I agree. :)

This entire flame war really got to me. Right in the middle of
Christmas, too. I guess that's why I became one of Bologna's

I seemed to have missed something. Linda left? (Well, there haven't been
any posts from her, I know that.) But she didn't have to go and leave.
In fact, I was hoping I could finally establish good relations with her,
'cuz basically, I don't feel we ever have and that is basically the cause
of most wars.
Now we'll see if I can clinically analyze the basis of this whole thing.
I sure am glad that I took that psychology class.
First of all, one should notice a common tendency of posters. The old
regulars tend to stick together, as do the newer ones. Thus, posters that
are somewhat synchronous in arrival have somewhat of a bond. They
converse with each other. Okay, Linda and I arrived at basically the same
time in AGFF, about a couple of days apart from each other. No other
regular that I can remember that's still posting here arrived during that
period of time. The aforementioned tendency never took place between
Linda and I because well, she looked to make a connection with Fali.
Thus, I was more or less alone in my struggle to acceptance. Linda was of
a different culture than I, and didn't understand some of my references
(of course, it is me we're talking about, and culture differences don't
really matter in such instances) such as one about Mt. Rushmore or
something like that.
In the predicament I was in, I had to try to make connections with the
regulars that were there before me as well, as Linda did with Fali, for I
was uncertain who this Linda person was that didn't really understand me,
and I her. Well, Linda and I both found are niches, and we conversed
every so often, but not often enough to understand each other as what
should've happened.
Then gradually the posters I had come to know and lo-- appreciate dropped
out of the posting scene. The TRUE Edge, Fali himself, Lord Falconer,
FuSoYa, Fulgore, (all at different time periods, of course) and the list
goes on... I think. (I never really noticed Rob, or Sean, or Tony (as he
was called then) and whoever else until later. Ralph was the only
exception I can remember maintaining a somewhat reliable posting habit.)
The sporadic posts sort of put me out into the real world, and I had to
get a job and live on my own. This is very difficult.
I credit the above (and a chemical imbalance :) to the frustration I
sometimes show and if I ever do it again, just get the posters I mentioned
above posting again and I'll stop. I assure you that.

If you didn't notice, some of the things that were said to her were
rather (rather, heh... try REALLY) insulting. Couple this with the
fact that it's Christmas (hey! Did everyone forget that?) and that
she has to put up with all this when she should be doing other things
like celebrating the holidays. People react to situations
differently, and whereas one person may just brush it off and think
"well, it's only some text, big deal," another person may react
stronger... heck, I can usually brush that kind of thing off after a
while, but some of the things that were said about Linda were enough
to make MY stomach churn at the fact that people could be so
insulting. I'm not at all surprised that she thought about leaving...
she shouldn't--no, DOESN'T--have to put up with that.
I wouldn't worry though; she never officially said she was leaving,
just that she was considering it. I have a good feeling that she'll
return eventually. Everything has been cooling down recently (and
thankfully), so I'm confident that she'll return in a couple of days.

I don't think she's gone...but I think she (and many other regulars) have
been treated very unfairly. I think we should come up with a plan for
revenge...I heard of some viruses that can actually be sent by e-mail. Any
truth to these rumors? K3lwd00d, for one, deserves it. :)

Yes...unfortunately, I, and I'm sure many others, find it difficult to mend
damaged relations. It can certainly be done, but only if both sides are
willing. I'm hoping I can get along with FLoBBaSKo (I had something of a
battle with him during the Hentai Wars) now. I really hate getting into
fights with regulars like that, espescially the Old Ones (sounds like H.P.
Lovecraft or something :) ) such as FLoBBaSKo, because I do admire them and
their Old Regular society.

I believe I was posting quite a bit during the summer, which is the
impression I must have left with many people. However, now, during the
school year, I can't post as much...except during vacations. :) But I do
read the NG almost every day, so everyone remember that although I can't
post all the time, I will most likely read what you have to say. Also, I
plan on staying for a while longer, weather permitting (that just sounded
good, you know? It has no significance whatsoever.). I've been here
for...almost exactly a year now, and hope I'll be able to stay for several
years more.

I'm here, and I hope I will be able to stay for a long time. Also, Bologna,
are you in for re-establishing the Old AGFF (primarily off-topic, featuring
close Regular relations)? I believe that when I arrived, I was just seeing
the end of this era...perhaps it was the second war of Meow that disbanded
them, or made some of them leave (EggNog, Draagn (and few other Old Regulars
whose names I cannot recall right now ( <- is better than saying et cetra
(whoa, is this three sets of parentheses inside a parentheses?)))). You
know, someone should write a post of AGFF history someday... :) WE must
avoid future tragedies with the same impact as the Meow wars. Anyway, I'm
posting as often as I can (gotta love the holidays) and am reading the NG
almost every day. Perhaps the key to restoring the Old AGFF is increasing
inter-regular relations? Hmm...

Well, that's all of it in a nutshell, I guess. I don't really have
anything to add.
In fact, the only reason I replied to this is....
...sometimes, when I make wise and 'feeling' posts, I feel more

was an incredibly wise and honest post from BC, with a lot of feeling
in it. Sometimes, it's just good to know someone is hearing you.
Chris (Bologna), I hear and understand what you're saying. And I'm
glad you posted that. It's a feel-good post for all concerned. :)

Well, does he deserve a flame? And as I've said before, I don't like flaming,
it sure doesn't help my image much. I *do* want to make sure people dont look
down on me, so I usually try to write posts with SOME intelligence ;)

Shoot.. well, I was hoping I wouldn't have to explain it.. "Ignore it or
kill it. Anything else honours it" is a quote from a magic card...
(Magic: the Gathering).. sheesh.. the name of the card is "enffeblement"
thus the post... okay..
Kuibob
He posted a pic a while back of himself shitting a bathtub and told people it

Yeah, but adding a flame at a moron eveyr now and then isn't bad. :)

I meant he's too stupid to flame. It's kind of sad and pathetic...
And BTW that's pretty funny to me, but then again I had the luxury of not
seeing that one ;)

Well, I semi-flamed Linda and Kui... and actually, it made me feel warm and

There is nothing wrong with a chemical imbalance. Lots of people have
them and don't know it. I knew a clueless person last year who said that
"Prescription drugs like Prozac shouldn't be legal because they just
mess people up more." I, who, unbeknownst to all, happen to have a
deficiency in der cranium :), sat there, tried to reason with him, then
realized that he bought his own spiel and merely fumed.

Sometimes people feel weird about responding to such posts. It's like
exposing yourself...sometimes more than you want to. Most of us have
enough trouble revealing our true selves to those we see everyday, but
for others it's easier talking to people whose faces you never see. But,
of course, Kuibob's lovely webpage is changing that ;)
Sorry about going off up there.

Sorry, it was the bassist of Cream, I believe... I don't think Eric Clapton
sang that one (he didn't sing much of Cream's songs, and when he did, it

But whether it was the bassist or Clapton, it definitely wasn't Homer.

which in Cream. I get Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker (see, I can remember

He sang born under a bad sign!?!?! Damnit, what episode? I must have missed
that one.
Who is Ric Grech!? <Kain takes his parents' copies of Family Entertainment and
Blind Faith and smashes GFox over the head with them> Bassist and violinist for
Family and Blind Faith, and a damn good one at that! :)
Hm, I forgot you were a massive Who fan. Pardon me.
And as for Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker, Baker was later drummer for Blind Faith,
who had Clapton on guitar and Steve Winwood on keyboards. Jack Bruce wasn't
easy to get along with, so his career pretty much died along with Cream.
Although recently he toured with Ringo and the All-Starrs in a band that
included Procol Harum's Gary Brooker and Peter Frampton.
Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker weren't playing together for the first time anwyay -
before Cream they were together in the Graham Bond ORGANization (led by Graham
Bond on jazz organ, of course) who opened for Chuck Berry when my dad saw him in
1965. Clapton would probably have been in the Bluesbreakers, along with John
McVie (later bass player for Fleetwood Mac) at the time. So all three had huge
reputations when Cream were formed. Where else would the name come from? :)
While we're on the subject of music: classical music fans who haven't heard it,
give Mahler's Fourth Symphony a listen. The finale is absolutely gorgeous.

If truth be known they only made one album anyway. Since they were a contrived
supergroup they suffered from conflicting egos and incompatible ideas, and in
the middle of a tour Clapton quit them to join Delaney and Bonnie, a husband and
wife duo who were opening for them on the tour. Soon, a bunch of other rock
stars including George Harrison joined them as well. When Delaney and Bonnie
were divorced and the group broke up, Clapton took three of its members plus
Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers and voila: Derek and the Dominoes.

*sighs* "It's the lot of the bass guitarist," as my dad puts it. Aks (not ask,

Daltrey, and Moon out but not Entwistle. (Casual, not obsessive like you, Greg.)

Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, and Eric Clapton were the cream on top of the milk of
British music at the time. All three of them were among the most brilliant
musicians (if not quite songwriters) of Sixties Britain. So they were put
together in a group. Their managers sensed that they might not last long, so
they milked them (pardon the double pun on Cream) for all they were worth while
they could by throwing them into a touring schedule that nearly did them in.
Incidentally, Jack Bruce was a Scottish, classically-trained cellist before he
played bass guitar in the Graham Bond ORGANization. My dad says that's not
unusual for the best of the bassists.

I listen to the very end of the finale the same way I listen to the very end of
"A Day in the Life" - closing my eyes and losing touch with everything except
the music. (Of course, with "A Day in the Life" the inner groove charges in and
ruins the atmosphere. :))
If you like that one and have a lot of patience for very long pieces, try the
Eighth Symphony as well. It's known as the "Symphony of a Thousand" - guess
why! :)

Well, apparently we've stumbled upon the mixed blessings that all bassists
enjoy/suffer. They are forever condemned to go through their rock careers
relatively unappreciated and unknown, but at the same time, they seldomly
drink or drug themselves to death, or make public spectacles of themselves.
In U2, I'd actually say Larry, the drummer, is the sanest... well, drummer
or bassist, it's always a member of the rythym section, I suppose. #;-}>

Ah. Well, then the Bernstein recording comes very highly recommended. It's
part of a series, by the way, which also showcase the water color paintings of
Prince Big Ears what married Lady Di. You know... Prince... um... what was his
name... oh yeah! Prince Charles. Keep an eye open for it - if they sell it in
Columbus they must have it Houston.
Seriously though, the Eighth is a tad overwhelming at times but there are some
fantastic melodies in it. Incidentally, one movement is in Latin, the other
German. Tricky fellow, that Mahler. :)
Eighth shmeith. The only really good Mahler symphony is good old #1.

Hmm... I'd have to say that on the rare occasion the vocalists step back from
the forefront it's the strings and brass that tend to grab the spotlight.
However, it's not an easy categorization.
