The following is a game music quiz I came up with. Some questions are
hard, some are easy. I also try to cover alot of angles, so there are
technical music questions in there, as well as soundtrack CD questions.
Many have to do with Final Fantasy and Square Rpgs (most of which come
first) but I tried to cover alot of ground, so read all the questions
before you give up on answering anything.
If you have a question on wording, just ask, and I will try to ask it
better. I will post the answers in a few days, but if you want to know
the answers before that, just ask. There's no point to this quiz, but
it's all in good fun, ne?
Note: all numbering and names are for the Japaneese version unless the
title is the US one or I say otherwise. IOW, FF3 refers to the Famicom
game and not the Snes one.
So let's get started.
1. Who is the composer of the main Final Fantasy series?
2. Who is the composer of Final Fantasy Mystic Quest?
3. There is a little fanfare that occurs from time to time in FF 1-3.
What Snes FF also had this fanfare?
4. There are two musical similarities that FF1-6 all have that FF7
lacks, what is it?
5. What is different about FF5's versions of both answers to the above?
6. The Chocobo theme is heard in many different versions through the FF
series. What released FF has the most different versions?
7. What key is the Chocobo theme normally heard in?
8. What is the chord arpeggiated at the beginning of the second half of
the Chocobo melody?
9. Which FF deos not have the prelude played somewhere before you start
the game?
10. Which released FF does not have a fully arranged CD?
11. There is one track on the FF vocal collections that is not from any
FF. What is it, and which CD is it on?
12. Orchestral Game Concert 1 has three FF4 orchestrated tracks. What
are they?
13. Orchestral Game Concert 2 had four FF5 orchestrated tracks. What are
they?
14. Orchestral Game Concert 4 has a track on it that is 23 mintues long.
What is this track?
15. There are two Squre games that are not FFs, and don't have Chocobo
in the title, yet still have the Chocobo theme in them. What are they?
(Hint: Names of games were sometimes changed for US release)
16. Seiken Densetsu 2 (Secret of Mana) has music called "Angel's Fear".
This music is really just a variation of what theme from what FF?
17. Chrono Trigger also has variation of music from that FF, in
"Epilogue ~ To Good Friends". What in that music?
18. Who wrote the music to the Romancing Saga series, as well as Saga
Frontier?
19. What game did the above composer do the music for before that (by
himself)?
20. Who wrote the music to Saga 3 (FFL3)?
21. The are two games, one is a Snes game, one is a PSX game, that have
music which start out virtually the same, bassline and all. Both of
theese themes are heard in a forest area. What two games are they (Hint:
one is a Square game)
22. Which of the following games do not an ending song:
a. Castlevania: Sotn
b. Xenogears
c. Parasite Eve
d. Final Fantasy Tactics
23. Xenogears has an arranged CD (Creid) with two tracks that are
identical to the OSV, except for one noticable difference. What is that
difference?
24. What is the style of music in Einhander?
25. How many composers wrote music for Tobal #1?
26. The battle music in Lufia 2 and the boss battle music from Breath of
Fire 3 share something unique. What is it?
27. Which 2 of the 5 Zelda games don't have the full "main Zelda theme"
in them?
28. Zelda 5 features some music from Zelda 3, including that for Kakario
village. There are two versions of the music played the game, one when
your young, and one when your old. Which one is more like the Zelda 3
version?
29. The Zelda CD "Sound and Drama" features music from which two Zelda
games?
30. In Super Mario World, if you wait for long enough on the Special
Stages area, what music do you hear?
31. The Castlevania series features three themes used over and over in
later games, each from the first three games. What are thier names, and
from which Castlevania game do each come from?
32. One of the above is the only music featured in a Castlevania Gameboy
game also found somewhere else. Which one, and which GB game?
33. The music of the first stage in Kid Dracula is really an upbeat
remix of what Castlevania theme?
34. The Parodius series always fetures wacky remixes of classical, pop,
jazz, and even music from other Konami games, including the above Kid
Dracula theme. Besides character themes, what is the one music featured
in all four games of the seires?
35. What is the source of the music in the "omake/lollipop" stage of the
first Parodius game on the Super Famicom.
36. In the days when games were often made by one or two people, music
was often taken from existing sources. Clowns and Balloons is an
example. What early 20th century composer's music was featured in that
game, and what is the style of music he was considered to be the prime
composer in?
37. Pitfall 2 is an example a game with original music. It did, however,
have one existing theme in it. What is that music?
38. What extremely popular arcade game has two acsending thirds (ie C,
E, D, F, E) at the beignning of it's main music?
39. Pooyan also used an existing piece for it's music. What was it and
who was the composer?
40. While games today pretty much all have original music, many still
feature existing music at times, even outside of the Parodius series.
Name the game that each of the following music is in:
a. Sabre Dance - Kachaturian
b. Swan Song form Swan Lake - Tchaikovsky
c. Passacaglia in d minor - Bach
d. Air form Cantata #140 - Bach
e. Wedding March (modified) - Menndelson
f. Air on a G String (modified) - Bach
g. Viola Concerto (modifed) - Bach
Ther you have it. Don't worry if you don;t get even most of the
questions. I will try to moniter the quiz and see who gets the most
right.

Just so others will feel better when they see that I'm more clueless
than they are...

I'll go with FF5, since I don't remember it in 4 or 6.

Got me.

I'll go with FF4.

C major? (I really have no idea, I'm just guessing for the sake of
guessing.)

Damn it, that's my favourite song from SD2, and I have no idea. That's
annoying.

I've only played CSOTN, but since it's a multiple guess question, I'll
guess... C.

Bloody Tears was in Castlevania Legends...

We could use some participation over there. :)

I refuse to enter arcades unless they have Galaga. Therefore, I don't
go to the arcades much. :)

Nubou Umatsu, duh.
>3. There is a little fanfare that occurs from time to time in FF 1-3.

If you refer to the thing you hear when you get an item or something
like that, I think that it's in FFV.
>4. There are two musical similarities that FF1-6 all have that FF7

The actual fanfare when you win the battle.
>5. What is different about FF5's versions of both answers to the above?
I have no idea what this meaans.
>6. The Chocobo theme is heard in many different versions through the FF

Hmmm... FF1! ;-) J/K.
It's not FF6... not FF2 or FF3... Either FF5 or FF7. I think 7.
>7. What key is the Chocobo theme normally heard in?
I don't know music keys.
>8. What is the chord arpeggiated at the beginning of the second half of

No knowledge in actual music notes.

FFT.

I don't know. Maybe 2j or 3j.
>11. There is one track on the FF vocal collections that is not from any

The second CD - "Love Will Grow". the track is "Valse des amouroux"
(I'm not sure about the spelling, I don't want to go upstairs and
check).
>14. Orchestral Game Concert 4 has a track on it that is 23 mintues long.
>What is this track?
It could be FF6 ending + the prelude. That could make a 23 minute
track...

Chrono Trigger and BOF3. That was really weird when I heard that.
>22. Which of the following games do not an ending song:
> a. Castlevania: Sotn
> b. Xenogears
> c. Parasite Eve
> d. Final Fantasy Tactics
I'm just guessing, Castlevenia. I haven't played any of the first
three games and I didn't finish FFT yet.
>23. Xenogears has an arranged CD (Creid) with two tracks that are

>difference?
I don't have any of those two CDs, but I'd guess that the vocal CD has
vocals in it. :-)
>24. What is the style of music in Einhander?
I don't know how to categorize it. Probably "The vcategory of music
that Einhander is categorized in".
Well, that's all I can answer.

>Why do I hate Chrono Trigger so much?
I hate CT because it's childish, silly, has a no good childish
storyline and Chrono never talks.
Sure, the graphics/music are important in an RPG or any other game,
but in an RPG I expect to see a good script, no pretty orange jello
balls that want to destroy the world.
>Why did I write this?
So I don't have to write it every time in my messages replying to
people asking why I hate the game.
