Ring of the Dead, anyone?

I know there was a quest in the past that allowed people with VERY good
faction with The Dead of Neriak to get a ring of the dead. This ring
had one charge of bind and could be recharged by a spell merchant in the
Lodge of the Dead. But now I've been told by many people that Verant
removed the quest from the game. Does anyone know this for sure? Has
anyone obtained one of these rings through the Thex Mallet quest or any
other in the last 2 months or so? Or is it just plain gone, now? Of
Verant did decide to take it out, I hope they put it back in, because
this is a sweet-ass item for melee classes, and it's a shame all of the
cool quests end up getting taken out or made WAY too difficult. If
anyone has any info, please post it. Thanks in advance.

What actions please the Dead? I have brought many beetle
eyes from nektulos and erudin.... are the tasks set in my
home the only way or is there some population somewhere
to expunge?

point to kill every high elf slave in Crushbone whenever I can with my
Necromancer.

The ring is no longer being given out. The reaper is the only reward;
additionally, the rings that were already in the game have been made nodrop.
