player by the name of rufus harley.
Rufus was from Philadelphia. Once, I wanted to see if I could get a copy of
his records. It wasn't available anywhere on the net then. But I called
information on a hunch.
The operator, bizarrely, said she remembered Rufus and told me that there
was a Rufus Harley Jr and that she knew for sure it was his son because she
lived in their neighborhood in Germantown when they were growing up.
I never could get the records but I always liked Ayler and Rufus, and still
think the bagpipe is melancholy
