I defused the bomb in Megaton, but everyone's dying just the same!
I've come across the bodies of Walter, Nathan, Jericho, Billy Creel,
and one or two others I think. Are they all accident-prone? If so,
maybe the programmers should think about regenerating uniques.

That's different. I defussed the bomb and everyone was alive the rest
of the game.

Did you do the Water Plant mission? Maybe it happens if you don't,
but I dout it.

I never did the water plant mission, and the locals are alive and well.

If you're close you can take a Mentat. That'll raise your skill level.

they're 'definitely looking into.')

Where is Megaton? What game is this? Is this a mod to Oblivion?

The "F3" in the subject header refers to Fallout 3, which was developed by
Bethsoft using the Oblivion game engine. While it incorporates many new
combat and exploration mechanisms not seen in the Elder Scrolls games,
Fallout 3 is still described (affectionately or derisively) as "Oblivion
with guns," which is either a plus or a minus depending on how much you
liked the previous game.

Evaluating the proper use of the crossposting feature is left as an
exercise for the reader. :)

I did do the water plant mission, but they died anyway. Their bodies
are lying all over Megaton. :(

They seem to have problems with other objects or people they run into
as they walk about the place. They can't be both in the same place, so
one of them gets pushed and dies, falling over or falling off ledges.

The programmers are no longer using the grid paths of Morrowind and
Oblivion, they're using "meshes" which allows for more freedom of
movement to the NPCs, and more randomness in the paths they use, but
they're having problems with it as well. Maybe they should use the old
grid paths in the cities, or at least in Megaton, and use the meshes
only *outside* the town.

I recall reading about a PC bug that caused folks in Megaton to walk (or be
pushed) off the walkways due to their startup positions. This was fixed in
the PC patch.

I don't know about X-box, though, but it sounds like it might be a similar
problem :-/ Is there an X-box patch available? Not knowing much about X-box,
I don't even know if you can patch X-box games.

Sheesh. This was a problem in the Xbox version of Morrowind too, where you
couldn't find certain NPCs because they'd be standing under walls or
underground after so many subtle shifts of position.

The Xbox 360 does receive software patches automatically for games that
are Live-enabled. You get prompted to install an update, and a few files
are written to the hard drive that override corresponding disk content.
After a restart, the app validates the CRC of the files and then uses them
instead of the what's on the DVD. It's not a bad system. I don't know if a
360 patch has been issued yet or not, as there's no mandate to notify
users when it happens.

-KKC, who's suddenly inspired to see if Morrowind will run on his Asus Eee.
