The Elder Scrolls Redguard was released in 1998.
IMO its clearly the basis & predecessor in style to Morrowind & all
Bethsheba subsequent releases .

I'm trying (again sigh!) to get it to work on a modern Windows.
It was made for Win 95 & DOS.
Anyway here is a loooong, full I think, Video play through
of Redguard .
The other parts are under the same Contributors name.
Also on this page Video Play through's of E/S Battlespire, Arena etc..

Well actually its not. Daggerfall and Arena were. Redguard was more
like an action-adventure than a rpg compared to Daggerfall.

If you have problems to get it to run read

It's not even part of the Elder Scrolls RPG series but a rather an
"Elder Scrolls Adventure."
Not a direction the Elder Scrolls fans wanted apparently, since they
never made another.

I could never get into it since it wasn't an RPG of any stripe and
that's what I was looking for in an Elder Scrolls game after Arena and
Daggerfall. I tried the demo but it was just not what I wanted.

Good luck getting it to work, I've read in the past that it is
particularly prickly to get running and probably unfinishable.

You misunderstand me.
I know TES RPG's go from Arena...Daggerfall....Morrowind...etc..

With Redguard I'm refering to the style of design structure & 1st / 3rd
person view.
which IMO continues with Morrowind ...etc.,...etc.
Even down to the weird way Hero 'jumps' ..still there in Skyrim.

Arena...Daggerfall & Battlespire use a very different design structure ...
combat method etc..

Hey ! I've just got Redguard totally working on WIN 7 64bit. (Impressed
Cheering !)
Software Graphics Mode ... sound & music ..
DOSBOX 0.74 ... needs MEMSIZE=64 or won't work.

Its running a damn site better than waaaaay back when I had it under WIN 98
& it crashed every 5 mins or every 15 with sound disabled.

Thanks for the follow up... I was aware of the Elder Scrolls games,
but never played any of them up until Skyrim. It was a bad call on my
part, because I'm sure I would have loved them. I just stuck more to
straight forward FPS's.

I have a couple of them to go back to now, I can also add this one to
the pile. :)

You might be wise to check that video play though of Redguard.
before laying out any cash & effort.

I mean its pretty damn awful in a Mr Rob sort of way.
Worst voice acting ever...& God they do talk on & on.
Graphics are very 1998.

Will do. I'm the antithesis of a graphics whore though. My favorite
game (Defender) was made in 1981. ;-)

Only because you do not have 3dfx hardware.

Run it in hardware mode:
http://www.glidos.net/redguard.html

(There are other 3Dfx emulators as well.)
