access violation c0000005

[Sistah Fistah]

There has to be a solution to the access violation that occurs in many ppls
copies of Diablo 2.
I too have been having this problem of the the game freezing..and upon
getting back to the desk top....up pops the access violation
c0000005.............

I have tnt2 with latest drivers, direct x8....basically I have pc that
should run this game easily..
I hope some1 has some solution to this...as blizzard ass fucked!!!!!

Want the good news or the bad news first? I suffered from this problem
after D2 had run fine for months. It happened for me with version 1.06b (I
think - but there had to have been something else!), so if you don't play
online try using an earlier patch perhaps. That worked as a temporary
measure. However the only way I managed to 'fix' it was with a total
reformat, but when I asked other people here said that hadn't helped them.

I had a similar problem. Make sure you close all running programs before
you start D2 (get rid of all that stuff in the taskbar, etc.). This fixed
it for me.
