Other than Moon (who is biased) is suggesting, there is more than one
Linux port of Descent 2 available: You can try D2X-XL
(www.descent2.de), which offers a lot of new features and upgraded
graphics (and to be honest, leaves D2X-Rebirth behind it in the dust
in every respect - regardless of what some people are claiming), but
can also be made to look exactly like the old 3dfx version of the
original game (which implies that D2X-Rebirth is not necessarily
closer to the original game - another biased claim). There are very
precise installation instructions available on the web site, and you
are welcome to register in the forum and ask questions there. A D2X-XL
user even has D2X-XL running very well under WINE with a 3 monitor
setup (!) - which speaks volumes about the improvement D2X-XL
constitutes over every other Descent 2 version around. D2X-XL even
allows to play Descent 1 missions with it (the only limitation here is
that it is using the Descent 2 AI).

The question is whether I am omitting facts, or giving wrong or
partial information like Moon, and the answer is I never did. I have
recommended Rebirth often enough if it was the better choice, or at
least told people about both possibilities, explaining the differences
between XL and Rebirth in a fair way.
Waiting for you to grow a brain or at least a decent attitude seems to
be a waste of time. Is trying to thing really that painful for you?

is doing more than enough for this community and unlike you did not develop
an unjustified god complex.

And if I'm advertizing the better port that's totally my prerogative so
stop whining if steveski is playing DXX-Rebirth as he should.

D2X-XL is the superior port for quite a number of reasons, and while I

The problem is that you believe that I owe you anything. I have seen
it often enough from your arrogant bug reports when something in D2X-
XL didn't work out immediately for you, and I have told you that.
Besides that it is entirely up to my disposition to bring clarity into
the FUD you are spreading. Like it or not, but this is a place where
everybody can post his opinion, not just you.
Your apparently irrestible urge to utter insults says enough about
your lackluster character, boy. Looks like I have scratched that
arrogant elitist surface of yours.

It just so happens nobody gives a fuck and comes to join us with
DXX-Rebirth.

Each D2X-XL version has about 5000 - 6000 downloads. There are a few
people who actually prefer Rebirth's dated look over D2X-XL's improved
graphis, but there's enough Rebirth users who turned away from XL for
the one and only reason that I wouldn't tolerate their behaviour
towards me, and you are one of them. At least you are having the
character not to use XL (Or do you?). My commendation.
It is just so that you constantly make a lot of not just unfounded,
but completely clueless and false claims like the above, or just
generally that XL would be inferior to Rebirth - oh sure it is. It's
renderer is just two or more times faster than Rebirth's, it has
particle effects, colored light, per pixel lighting, high resolution
textures and 3D models, and and and. Sure, that gives Rebirth a
huuuuuuuuge edge. Geez, this is so stupid that it makes a brick look
smart in comparison.
and that is so because your pathetic swollen ego couldn't take being
told that I am fed up with your arrogant, ungrateful attitude towards
me when I tried everything to make D2X-XL work everytime you had a
problem with it. I had once given you a special treatment for what you
had done for the Descent community, but you haven't deserved it,
because you took it as a carte blanche to behave like a spoiled brat
towards me.
