Hi all,
Musta been about 2 1/2 years ago while visiting my brother, played DF1 demo.
GOTS to get it, I says. But alas, my 486 not up to the task.
6 mo's pass. Go to a computer builder and say - make me a complete game
playing computer, here's $1500 U.S. I get an AMD K6-2 450. I ask Santa for
DF. Santa brings me DF2! Cool, I didn't even know there WAS a 2.
Fantastic game, but poor framerate when I needs it the most. I start
lurking this NG, not knowing how to post anonymously enough to control spam.
I go tweaking and testing crazy, trying to play more actively than sniping
runners at 512 resolution, and work up to sniping at 640 res. I become
entirely disgruntled with my system performance and give up on DF2. Off to
the store I go for DF1. The sales clerk says there is a DF2 available.
Thanks, I says. DF1 much smoother, but also mostly closer combat where my
framerate takes a nosedive. I give up on DF altogether.
1 year passes, no DF. June 2001 I go to a computer builder and say - make
me an excellent game playing computer including MB, processor, video card,
and harddrive, here's $1500 U.S. I get a P4 1.7g, Intel MB, 256m 400mhz
RAM, GeForce II Pro, and a big, fast harddrive. First game load = DF2, good
framerate at 800 res. Very nice to be able to move, see, and shoot all at
once! Try 1024 res - choppy?!?!? WHAT?? Arghh The tweaking begins
anew, although am a bit worried that when I get 1024 res smooth, will be out
of excuses for catching bullets.
In the meantime, looking for some non-cheating, real team play on DF2, the
greatest game that ever was.

Max Res(olution) to all in DF County,
Fury

Nice history, Tony. Ask Santa for an early christmas present in the form of
DFLW. Next to your processor it uses your videocard as well. Runs much
better than DF2. Is more fun also.

Cya on the Hill.

that's why the current updates cut out the 1024 res altogether. It's just
unstable, has nothing to do with your PC. Perhaps when the 2GHz become
available........

lol, hoping I won't be upgrading again anytime soon. Way back when, was
getting beaten badly in games and asked others what resolution they b
playing. Many answers were 1024 with much less cpu than I now possess.
Surely 1.7ghz has the speed for 1024?

Have you checked out Operation Flashpoint yet Tony? It is simply
incredible if you like maximum realism. You might check out the demo for
it. It's a big download but well worth it.

I think you will like...but...you might want to wait until September when
the U.S. version comes out and hopefully all the bugs are worked out. You
can buy it in the U.S. through a few mail order places, but only if you
don't mind some of the frustrating bugs. MP section has no server support
yet (not until August) and there are bugs galore on the MP gaming...but it
is still usable.
Time will tell if BIS/Codemasters get their act together and take care of
all or most of the major bugs. But it's a good game worth getting just as
a single player game as the AI is very good and there are tons of user-made
missions available (full version comes with a map editor).
I'm in love with it but it doesn't replace DFLW. It does however offer
superb realism. I've fired many of the weapons (or similar weapons) it has
available in the game and can attest to that. I look at it as a combined
arms warfare simulation, while I look at DFLW as a great shoot-em up game
with a little bit of realism and tactics required.

Just played my first 2 hours of Operation Flashpoint demo and have yet to
complete the mission. Very Nice. Anxious to try something in a scope. Bet
would make an excellent MP game - some real shoot-em-up in the woods stuff.
Noticed I had video choices of 3d or Glide. Thought Glide was dead or dying
with 3dfx. Will probably wait for most of the bugs (documentally challenged
features?) to be fixed.
