I would buy a printed play guide, never one online. I don't think the
writers working online are nearly [yet] as good as those working for
traditional offline publishers.
Not to mention you can read other playguides online which are *free.*

The CIV II guide there made all the difference in my subsequent game
success, and it is FREE. Just download or print from the site.
