So a few years (in game time) back I scouted a defender with heading 18,
finishing 19, long shots 18, passing 16, bravery 20 and composure 15....

Apart from his acceleration and pace, he looks like a mighty towering
striker. I nurtured this defender into a striker over the years. Brought him
on last season (29 games, 19 goals. THis year 10 games played, 9 goals).

So he only plays as a striker, still.. all the media-comment and all speaks
of him as a defender... Match preview: Defender X will be looking to make it
the attacking opposition tough today... he's in the front the whole game
ffs!

Anyone else expierenced this?

Looks to me an old bug...ahem.....'feature'. Long in the CM series players
retrained to another position and with subsequent media messages would
still be labelled and identified as their original boilerplate position
and so forth. And so the tradition carries on it seems. No sweat. It's a
feature.

Incidentally, based on what you just described, the player looks like one
big lump of a centre forward. How's his 'jumping? Do big lumps still rule
OK in FM2007and for that matter 08?

Hoof that ball direct to the big lad and he heads it on for himself to
turn, give chase and scores? Still like that in the game?

Check his positions screen. You can only retrain players' positions up
to 'Accomplished', so his 'Natural' for defender will be his highest
position stat. By the looks of it, it's this that the media function
bases its comments on regardless of where you actually play them.

I too had a defender who I trained up as a striker, as he had decent
striker stats and I was short of left-footed strikers at the time. For
the vast majority of his career with me he usually played as a
defender, though.
