I'm 43 and enjoy bf2 and 2142 also. I replied to Dog a while ago.
I think ya'll are right, there are alot of 30+ gamers, I dont think it is an
age thing so much as my post earlier, there are people that live for gaming,
no family, no social life.
I also have little children 2 1/2 and 4, and there are times I'll be in the
heat of battle, and they just want my attention, now, I have 2 choices, keep
playing and clean the house later, or, quit and go play with them.... if I
dont do the later, well, they destroy the house. So, my game time is
limited, precious and I too try to have fun and make the best of it. If I
get on a server with to many "pro's" I just leave. My rule of thumb, if I
feel like more of a target than a participant, I leave. I dont care about
being number 1 <rare> I just dont wanna be number 1 target lmao.
Enjoy it guys!!! I do........ every chance I can!!!! oh, and my name in BF2
and 2142 is {SFU}Jackyl or {SFU}Jackyl764 I do squad up, command
occasionally, but mostly try to have fun :)
Isn't that what its all about?

{SFU}Jackyl

XFX 7800GTX (SLI? yea, right, they're still $300-$600!!!!)

350gb SATA seagate barracuda 3.0

back, in fact I think you may have toasted me! LOL!!! All in good fun.

Well I am 46, and have three kids, and like everyone else my time is
limited.

I am, I can say with some level of modesty, a pretty good player. I
haven't mastered flying, I rarely gun in a helo. So I am a ground
pounder, who like armour too. I'm a second lt. (Myhopesanddreams).

I too leave a server if it isn't balanced. I don't mind being
mincemeat, but if all the good players are on one side, and all the
poor ones on another, it isn't really a game, its a points grabbing
exercise.

Some days I rock. Recently I've had a few games where my k/d has been
2/1. And as soon as the next game, on the same map with the same
players, I've gone down to 1/2.

I've even done this on servers where I am playing with a community
(bf2player.com members) of people I know.

Sometimes you just have to take a break.

Since we are talking age. I'm 55, retired AF and have 5 grand kids. I enjoy
the heck out of this game. Try to play as often as possible. Still somewhat
of a newb.

I think most of today's PC gamers are in their late 30's to early 40's.
Think about it. We're the generation that kicked off home console gaming and
pc gaming.

The 20 something's are the one's who decided it was time to cheat.

I just started BF2 again, so far mainly play single player Dalian Plant
map, guess I am practicing for now. Haven't played online, just don't
understand it at this point. Are there any "easy" servers for new
players to hone their online play. Oh, I tried online and got tossed off
for "no packet flow" is this because I didn't install "PunkBuster" will
have to check some forums for an answer if not here.

FWIW since we're talking age, I am 71, been playing computer games
since the Atari 400 days and when we thought a 16 kb memory upgrade was
great and a 5 mb drive would hold all I could possibly load on my Atari
ST. I use a 3.0 Pentium 4 with 2 GB memory and a BFG 7800 AGP video
card, will build up something later this year to take advantage of the
hotter video cards but so far BF2 and for that matter Crysis and COD 4
play fine, maybe not cranked up all the way but satisfactory.

Online name if I ever get on will be j.nitehawk

Punkbuster is a requirement for online play. It should have installed
silently with BF2. Do not confuse Punkbuster with Gamespy which is
totally optional. When you launch BF2, go to your Task manager and see
if pnkbusterA and B are running. There are occasions when you may hit
a problem with it, www.evenbalance.com has lots of information about
troubleshooting. I run an app called PBsetup which manually updates my
punkbuster since the automatic updates often fail.

Frankly some servers attract lower ranked players, some higher. I play
on servers with a few generals - it makes me play harder.

Your setup should be fine as long as you dont upgrade to Vista....

Thanks for the good advice James. Will give that a try as soon as I
finish working on the GrandDaughters Ipod that she ran throught the
washer last night.

I like playing the singleplayer BF2's as I said, too bad you can't get
unlocks with it, would like to try the Barrett 50 Cal Sniper rifle.<G>

Don't get your hopes up too high, the 50 cal is not that good in this

Agreed. The damage on the 50 cal is high - just shy of a one shot
kill.I'm sure thats for reasons of balance rather than realism. What
is realistic is that the 50 cal is loud, and in close conditions, its
too much of a giveway. If I am MEC, I prefer the SVD, which is semi
auto - meaning you can get a kill with a couple of quick shots before
they realize it. The second unlock is good for true long distance
sniping.

The advantage of the 50 cal is that it can penetrate the glass of a
chopper.

I like the chinese sniper rifle the most, better than the SVD
(druganov).
shooting thru glass is fun but rarely used.
