ha!

First, some non-sexy enhancements:

Baldurdash Fixpack - fixes many bugs.

Text Update - provides better descriptions.

ok, my favorite sexy beasts...

Kelsey - a sorcerer who will join your group in Athkatla if you
so wish. He can romance your character or Imoen. I've never
had my PC romance him because I find the Imoen romance so
entertaining.

Valen - EVIL character. She gives the group both significant
advantages and disadvantages.

Chloe - a kensai. There is a line in this mod that caused me to
actually LOL - a first, I think, of my roleplaying life except for
those bouts of derisive laughter I get sometimes as battle strategies
turn quickly into chaos and ruin. ;-)

Item Upgrade - Very helpful if you are playing Tactics.

Tactics - install this if you really like dying. Understand that an
army is, in effect, on your arse and quite content to stay there
the entire time. They are a more experienced group who possess
superior weaponry, boast previously thought-to-be-impossible
stats which are then further combined with through-the-roof
abilities. It's not as tough as that may make it seem though
because to compensate for their inherent superiority they are
given a numerical advantage. No really, this is a very fun mod -
just realize that you are up against it. I recently started playing
tactics and I couldn't go back to the original version now. Tactics
covers SoA while Ascension (which I haven't played yet) covers
ToB.

But I have no lethal weapon
Thus does Fate our pleasure step on!
So they still are quick and well
Who should be, by rights, in hell
- Dorothy Parker, presumably upon playing the beta version
of Tactics

Ascension--which has a different writer from Tactics--does make a number
of battles tougher, but the difference is quite noticeable, I thought.
And the primary purpose of the main component of Ascension, which was
originally published as the mod called Ascension, is not to make battles
tougher, but rather to rewrite the tenth chapter of the game and improve
the ending. It's also the only mod I've seen yet that fits into the
original game with perfect seamlessness so that if you don't know what
comes from a mod you'll never realize (its headwriter was the original
game developer, so that makes sense), which is very important to me.

Perfect seamlessness, Kish? The new lines don't have any voicing, and by
the end of TOB we all know that major plot lines are voiced.

Which new lines? Balthazar at the throne? Arguing with Balthazar? The

stand out. The beginnings of Melissan's speeches and the solar's
speeches are still voiced, as they were in the original game, and by the
end of ToB, we know that even major plot lines often stop being voiced
after the first couple lines of a dialogue.

Melissan spoilering Imoen.

Melissan's new pals, Spoili and Spoilercus.

I agree that Ascension fits well (in ways both good and bad, since in my
view it's just a refinement of the same lame design concept that drove the
final battle as it shipped in TOB) but I don't see how, in a perfect
seamless world, you wouldn't have every reason to expect that dialogue to
have audio.

Well, you can't expect a miracle. Finishing up a game where characters reach
(demi)god status is hard enough as it is. It's true that ToB's story could
have been a lot less riddled with clichés and plot holes, though.

You could be deaf.

If we're going to talk perfect seamless worlds, how many people were annoyed
by the fact that Elminster was suddenly voiced by a different actor? (Let's
not get into a discussion of how many people were annoyed by Elminster's
appearance period).

Kish isn't.

Yes, that was annoying, and I noticed it, and I would have doubly noticed
Mute Irenicus.

Well, no. I thought you were using generic-you. I didn't consider you using
Kish-you. Sorry.

Well, at least his lines didn't start with "Incidentally... " Now that would
have been a show-stopper, eh? :-)

Oh, here's an idea. Recycle generic sounds and just have Kelsey expose the
plot.

IRENICUS: Silly girl, you just don't understand what I'm doing, do you?
KELSEY: What's that you say, Irenicus? Are you implying that <spoil plot
here>?

Hmmm.... maybe not. :-)

Well, I'm still trying to hammer home my point that the non-deaf Kish
doesn't seem to mind the mute Bodhi and Irenicus in Ascension. :)

Maybe it's that I'm just totally out of it from this move, but I don't get
the joke, I'm afraid.

Well, I'm still trying to hammer home my point that if voicing is so
important to you, you can always do it yourself. There's always more Kelsey
where he came from, after all. :-)
