Hi All,

IS there a definitive list of deails of the City of Greyhawk in the
590s? I knoow that there are some in the first few Living greyhawk
journals, Den is Tetreault's pages have some good stuff, and some other
stuff in the Ex pedition to the Ruins of greyhawk.

Any other (canon) details anywhere else?

Thanks,
Peter

Allan is likely right as rain here. Those Living Greyhawk Journals used the exact
same numbering system, and indexed all of the places that were shown in "The
Adventure Begins". Well, Ill stop myself right now before someone umps on a
technical error. It has /most/ of them, to the best of my knowledge. There may
have been one or two left out, but I /think/ that theyre all there. J At any rate,
thats about the most canon-specific source that I know of without venturing into
"Living Greyhawk", and I dont know if you count that as canon or not.

Those Greyhawk grumblers aren't for real (canon) are they?

Well, they were presented in-character in a rather tongue-in-cheek
manner, as the "author" was something of a wag, but, insofar as I know,
theyre canon for those who pay attention to such things. They were
published by WotC on their website, and they contained material that was
used in other published sources. The fact of the matter is that many
people prefer to say that the LG campaign wasnt canon. But, by all
appearances, the "core" material of the campaign was considered canon by
WotC. Some of the material contained within the Grumblers was based on
LG material, but I would assume that once it was published by WotC in a
non-LG source, it became completely canonized. (Although, this in no way
connotates that all LG is canon -- it does give a good argument for such
inclusion.)

Why wouldn't they be?

They were produced as part of the Living Greyhawk Campaign, and intended
as role-playing supplements (background handouts) for the final core
series of the campaign. They are thus presented in a particular format
and with an in-character bias, but the vast majority of specific
comments in them are directly from canon sources. A little checking . .
.
Grumbler #1
Harsh Words Disrupt Oligarchy Meeting
The tension between Nerof Gasgal and Eritai Kaan-Ipzirel is mentioned in
FTA and Tab.
Eritai's multiple marriages are mentioned in COG.
The refugees from the Pomarj War are part Greyhawk Wars and part LG
plot.

Wild Coast Turns Tame!
The Pomarj War is an LG plot.

Street Neglect Hurts Commerce, Ankles
The street issues are mostly plot foreshadowing.
The references to the Oligarchy members are based on their previous
descriptions.

Missing Hierarch Found
The reference is for another end LG plot, the concept is from previous
source suggestion.

Disappearances Plague Veluna, Cause Panic
This is an LG plot seed from yet another end LG plot.

Look Out! St. Cuthbert's Day Approaches
The festival is mentioned in previous sources.

Shoe Leather Most Popular Flavor
Nicholi Nortoi first appears in COG and the Falcon series, along with
his work in the Slum Quarter.

Clerksburg Students Gather In Protest
Lord Lockswell is from COG, as are his children. His granddaughter
showing up some 20 years later is an extension of that.

Growfest Delights Some, Bores Others
The festival and the events are mentioned in COG.

Adventurers Petition For License Removal
The licensing requirements for weapons are mentioned in COG.
The complaints about them are from RPGA players.
Sir Gavin Ambus first appears in COG, his promotion is discussed in the
Oligarchy article linked to.

Grumbler #2
Talasek Thraydin is from the Falcon series.
The events surrounding his arrest occurred in the first LG adventure the
Grumblers were written to support.
His having a son is a bit of a stretch (Talamar should be about 14 or 15
at most, so Ainsley is getting a bit Padme-Anakin there), but setting it
up was just fun. (And Talamar appears in Pelgaryn as well.)

Turin Deathstalker Disappears
The events surrounding his disappearance occurred in the second LG
adventure the Grumblers were written to support.

Shakeup on Oligarchy
The events surrounding the change occurred in the first LG adventure the
Grumblers were written to support.
Tigran Gellner appears in COG.
I think Eric created Silas, but I do not recall.

City Watch Lets Others Do The Heavy Lifting
Gavin Ambus' large family is mentioned in COG.
The rest of the article is an in-joke referring to how the City Watch
always shows up in time to arrest the PCs, but is somehow never there to
prevent the constant assaults on them.

Greyhawk Celebrates Centennial In Style
The date of Greyhawk's "independence" appears in TAB.
The coincidence was merely used.
Otto and his linguistic foibles are mentioned in his previous write ups.

Castle Greyhawk Ruins Expect Banner Year
A humorous reference to the release (and adaptation for LG play) of
Expedition to Greyhawk Ruins.

Goblins Up To No Good; No One Surprised
Refers to events in the second LG adventure the Grumblers were written
to support.
Tobe Deritt and Mardin's Field are from two previous adventures written
by the authors of the Grumblers.
The xvarts are a reference to the appearance of xvarts in two of the
original LG adventures.
Xvarts living near the city also appear in the Falcon series.
The reference to plague bearing rats is one of those in-joke shout outs
to everyone's favorite xvart and rat lover.

Fat Lady Sings For Diva
Aestrella Shanfarel appears in COG.
The mention is foreshadowing for the third and fourth adventures the
Grumblers were written to support.

Dernan, Gerda Tie the Knot
Both appear in COG, as does their relationship.

Grumbler #3
Death Mars Centennial
Refers to events in the third LG adventure the Grumblers were written to
support.
The various Oligarchs are mentioned in COG and FTA.

Ten Oligarch's Not Enough To Make Soup
The composition of the Oligarchy is mentioned in COG.
The procedural impasse was made up for plot reasons.

Hollardel Resigns, Flees, And Possibly Dies
More fallout from the third adventure intended to advance the plot.
The thievery is mentioned in COG, along with her affair.

Public Council Vote Has Meaning For Once
The Public Council first appears in COG.
Hector the Talking Goat appears in COG.
Count Merleche appears in FTA, and in the two adventures featuring
Mardin's Field.
Gnarleyhouse appears in COG.

Silent, Short Blue Threat Plagues City
Xvarts are supposed to be vicious, rat-loving, CE menaces. This was
putting them back in their place.

New Goblin Nation Emerges On Wild Coast
The result of events in the second adventure.
(And proof I was right that RPGA players would support goblin
independence if allowed too. And people said I didn't understand the
player base. HA!)

City Mood Sours, Leaves Bitter Aftertaste
A way to foreshadow the potential danger of riots in the final
adventure.

Overall, NPCs and location references are heavily sourced, with two
"next generation" individuals created, and a few others added to provide
flavor commentary.
Attitudes of NPCs are based on previous descriptions.
Only the events represent new additions.

Oh, and hopefully everyone gets the joke of why a gossip-mongering
broadsheet in the city is called "The Greyhawk Grumbler".
