You heard me right. Never join them, they stopped to serve binaries groups
today.

So... run away from them while you still can.

Could be worst you could end up like sympattycake with one gigabyte of headers
speed throttled to 2 X 256 kilobytes per second or about 50 kilobytes per
second with no posting and headers count toward that one gigabyte. So mostly
you hit that one gigabyte of headers before you even read anything.

As of May 25, 2006, Bell Sympatico will discontinue its Usenet newsgroup
service. All existing Sympatico newsgroups will be removed and we will no
longer host a Usenet service.

Going forward, we invite you to post messages on our web-based discussion
forums available at www.bell.ca/internetforum.

For those who wish to keep using Usenet, NewsHosting (an unaffiliated Usenet
provider) will provide Bell Sympatico customers up to 1 GB per month of Usenet
service at no cost. Optional premium services, which can be purchased directly
from NewsHosting, are also available. To sign up, or learn more about these
services, visit bell.newshosting.com.

For more information on the discontinuation of the Sympatico Usenet service,
read our frequently asked questions.

Shaw the cable competitor carries a fairly good selection of binaries on
their servers. has about 7 days of retention with mediocre completion but is
useable. PAR2 can fix most of the broken posts.

This makes sense since Verizon is a big shareholder in Telus. It's a
shame really as I was considering a second account with them just for
USENET completions.

Telus has a subscriber, _G O D_ or DEMIGOD, who is a bleeding-heart
activist whose goal is to do away with all prisons. Each post,
featuring 8 cross-posts, contains a list of URLs that apparently
support his agenda. I think that his primary group is alt.prisons.
People in van.general have bitched to Telus on numerous times. Some
of them believe that he is being paid to post his shit.

Point is: Telus doesn't give a fuck. They may have dropped binaries,
but if spam is your thing ....

Give Telus another couple of months and they'll drop usenet altogether. Canadian
