For premium accounts we use the news.teranews.com news server only. For
free accounts we use the free.teranews.com news server. If you use a ip
address it will no longer work because the servers have changed. Our
software vendor has to many bugs in their program and has charged us too
much and not fixed their bugs. Finally their software crashed and we had
to find an alternative software. We have placed new servers for the front
and back ends for the premium servers and used the original for the free
which in a few months we will replace.
If you have a free account it will work but the server is overloaded so
we recommend you upgrade to a premium package that will give you access to
the premium server which has had a good track record and is supported
well. There are two accounts we recommend: The sponsor account which
gives you 12 gigs per year for 29.95 per year or the basic package which
gives you 250 meg per day for 7.95 per month.
The premium server address is news.teranews.com .
The upgrade is done in the manage accounts area:
http://www.teranews.com/manageaccount.html
We apologize for the inconvenience.
You will find that the system prorates your account so if you go to a 7.95
and you have a free account it will charge you 4.00 for now and if you
go back to a free account it will charge you the 3.95 or balance of the
package when you change back to a free account.
We apologize for the turbulent times but we are moving forward to the best
of our ability and we will get better progressively. We are
concentrating on the premium services so if you have a free account in
addition to your premium service you will find the free server going up
and down during the transition.
With the new software we will be adding revolutionary features in the next
few months which we think people will like. Because of the new software
your news client will see large message counts which just ignore. The
message counts are just a rough guess based on the highest numbered
article and the lowest numbered article and are never right because of
missing articles in the middle. Just ignore the message count of the
groups till you download headers of the group. When you click on a group
and it downloads the headers you will get the correct count of the group
in your news client as you always have.
If you were having problems logging in, the server was case sensitive and
we removed it so you do not have case sensitive issues with your password.
If you find problems with your downloading we recommend you delete your
profile in your news client and then reset it up and redownload all groups
and then all headers in each group you resubscribe too.
Note: if your news client caches and doesn't delete the cache or backup
files, deleting the profile or even reinstalling the news client will not
fix the problem you must physically delete the old files in your news
client directories. We do not know which ones but Outlook Express is one
you have to delete everything. You can usually determine by reading your
news clients readme files and or docs for each news client is different.
Having the old articles will not work with the new server. Deleting the
profile and reentering the info will fix that problem because you will
download all new articles and article numbers.
Many news clients will let you enter the same server more than once if you
do not believe us you can enter it as a different nick name or the same
name and the news client will just put a 2 in front. But the server name
must be entered as news.teranews.com or free.teranews.com depending on the
one you use.
Due to moving to a new server on the back ends we lost articles because the
new servers need time to build retention but in time that will increase be
cause they have 3 times the storage they use too.
We have found a bug in xnews that if you select the group twice it hangs.
To fix this right click on the group and select the open special option.
You have 3 bars reset all three and then try downloading headers. We have
no problems with news leacher that I am aware of.
The graphs on the manage accounts page for usage are not working yet when
we get the time we will have them working again. Please be patient.
If you have outlook express then to delete your profile you must delete
all maintenance backup files and go into the options menu and select the
read tab and uncheck the number of headers downloaded because the server
streams headers and outlook only downloads a few at a time and causes it
to hang up.
error 500 for agent.
Your message gave me enough of a hint to fix the problem. Here's what I
did with Agent 2.0:
Right click on a newsgroup and select default properties
On the What to Purge section uncheck
"Always get a complete list of the server's available messages"
We did add the xheader command now to the server for some older news
clients use it but if you have a client that uses xover you should disable
the xheader because the xover command is quicker and more efficient. You
can find how to disable the xhdr command by looking at the docs or readme
files in your news cleints directories or go to their websites.
Most new versions of news clients use the xover command instead of xhdr
and you might consider upgrading to the newest version.
Grabbit does not work with the server yet we went to a 64 bit server
solution and we have not determined what it does yet. In the mean time
there are many other news clients you can use.
If you are having headers slow downloads you might uncheck the header
limits in the read tab or set the limit to like 100 million.
We have more updates on the sever status page. Please check there for
more info : http://www.teranews.com/systemstatus.html
We are not aware of too many problems with news leacher and recommend it.
Again we apologize for the inconvenience our software provider has put us
in. The new servers are very stable hardware and in the long run we
believe we will provide you with a much better service.
